hi guys

finally with your advices i build my dagger,
only now i gotta prob because i build
oak-wood handle & folder (on lathe)
so now my folder is not tight @ all
i thought that i put some
mix of wood dust & wood glue on
inside walls of folder and after 24 hours to
emery it.

if somebody has better idea please reply

(again sorry if bad eng.)

much thanx

First, are you attaching the wood handles to steel liners? if not, the folder will loosen up a lot with use. It's hard to know what the problem is w/o pictures, but you could

- add bushings at the pivot to fill in the gaps between handle scales & blade, this will also make it open smoother

- if it's 2-piece handle construction, use a slightly thinner backspacer to bring the handle scales closer together

hello & much thanx 4 reply

my folder consist of 2 pieces of wood.
***
1st i digged a gap for blade and after that i glued it
with a wood glue and shapen on lathe + manual

after that and ... my finished dagger is falling of
his folder if turn down because whole is 2 wide (roomy - spacious)

i am sorry but i did not understand this, if u could explain again

my blade touch wood when in folder so i suppose that after
some use time even if my folder was adequate wide it would
become more wider-roomy :(

i do not know what 2 do

I'll move this thread to Shop Talk for you; that's where the knifemakers are.

While I'm here, I think you need to tighten the pivot. If it's a rivet tap it a little with a hammer -- be cautious; you don't want to make it too tight. If you use a bolt for the pivot it's easier to adjust....

well if the wood is glued together then you will have to concentrate on the pivot, which is the round piece of metal that the blade rotates around. Can you remove the pivot, add a busing on each side of the pivot, and then put the pivot back in?

hi

my dagger can not rotate blade as knife like
http://rocketknives.com/knifechronicle.htm

got hidden tang and i build it according 2 advices
from this forum & tutorial:

http://www.northcoastknives.com/northcoast_knives_tutorials_WoodenSheath.htm

{only i do not have the metal between the folder and handle}

so as final my dagger falls of the sheath

in this tutorial he has the same prob and used something called
1/32" balsa shims glues - & i do not know what that is :(

whole between blade and folder
(when dagger sheated) is about 1mm so
i am thinking now of glueing peaces of cloth inside the folder B),
or just mix of wood dust & wood glue

Ahh, I think I understand the confusion... It's the wooden sheath (a box like thing that's a separate piece that slides onto the blade) that's too loose? When you said folder that means the kind where the blade rotates into the handle.

If I understand right that you mean a sheath, I'd suggest epoxying thin leather or even paper on the inside edges on the wide sides of the sheath, this should make the hole smaller so the knife stays tight in there. In your next project, before you glue it together, make the blade slot narrower so it's too tight and carefully work it back until it fits just right.

thanx i glued with wood glue papers from both inside sides of
the sheet i think now will b fine

much thanx 4 support
bye
