FWIW, yesterday I was visiting the Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia and paid a visit to the local Chesapeake Knife & Tool only to find it was having a going out of business sale. While sorry to see them go, I thought I heard the sales clerk say that everything that wasn't specifically marked down was 20 percent off marked price. They had 2 umfaans in their Chris Reeve Collection (which also included some mnadis) listed for $350 a piece. If it's really 20 percent off (and I may have misheard), it would bring the price down to $280. fyi.

Just figured I'd let all of you righter handers take advantage if I heard correctly. I hope they start making them again so I can get a left handed version.
 
That is a bummer that you didn't partake in the Umfaanage! Great little knife! I do not believe that there are any plans to make them again. They are very rare to find, AND at those prices!!!
 
An Umfaan (from Norway!) has popped up on Ebay...is that the "spear thru grass" design?

Do you remember the design on them? Or were they plain? Damascus blade? (inquiring minds wanta know!) TIA
 
I dont want to be the bearer of bad news or kill this thread, but I couldnt take it anymore....I called today, I was going to buy one up if they had any at all. They said they were all sold out of all Chris Reeve Knives...I was sad.
Ofcourse, I dont know if there is only one CK&T in Fairfax, VA. Hmmmm....I had better look into that.

There is only one in Fairfax, VA. That particular store has been advertising 50 to 70% off of most merchandise in the store.


The entire Chesapeake Knife & Tool business is liquidating its assets due to filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

What I recall is 3 lines covering the length of the handle.

I really like the Umfaan. I just can't use a right handed frame lock. Some lefties can.
 
LI live very close to a cheasapeake knife and tool. and i am personal freinds with one of the employees. The crk's are indeed 20% off. If you wait most of the knives will drop to 50% off. But and this is a big but. The crk's and other custom and smei custom knives will be sold on ebay. The company is going belly up so get soem neat stuff while you still can.

That's odd... I just bought a Umfaan on Ebay today with the "spear thru grass" design!
