It's been 2 years of everyday carry for my Case peanut , the chestnut bone scales are a little darker and a bit pocket worn, I even think the edges of the shield have become a little more smooth and contoured to the handle, both the clip and pen blades have a little less material than when I first was gifted it by my then newborn daughter, I like to keep it sharp, so it glides effortlessly through material. The clip blade is mostly used for food, pen for utility task, I've said it in the past, it is my favorite fishing knife, as I pretty much only freshwater fish these days and the only fish I gut and keep are Crappies, so clip blade is more than enough. I still pair it with another knife most days (but that's because I have this odd disease that a number of us contracted by typing in Blade Forums Traditional Folders and Fixed blades into our smart phones or computers, carful it's a contagious infectious disease ), but the peanut is my constant, it is always on my person from the minute I wake, till I slip into bed at night, it has taken on task much bigger than its size would imply without fail and proven itself worthy, at the time I was gifted it I thought of it more as a novelty or trinket, I carried large stockmans, Moose and Laguiole and Opinel #9's, but I found myself pulling the peanut out of my pocket instead of the larger knives, using it with pride, joy and care, thinking of my daughter and my wife's thoughtful gift. After two years of use I can pretty much tackle any task I need to with a little thought and care, it's a trusted tool that has more than earned my respect.

Fantastic. I hope my chestnut bone looks as good as that after some pocket wear. That peanut is so easy to slide in and out of your pocket, it's a pleasure to carry.

This has been an exciting knife to follow along with as it's aged. Great idea to run an on-going story on it and great pics. This is truly an EDC - not a "most of the time" or "frequent" carry but an EVERY DAY 24/7 NO MATTER WHAT - NO EXCEPTIONS companion over a long period of time. Bravo to you! My #55 is like this, but only been 6 months since I've had it and only a handful of days it hasn't been with me in that time.

Thanks for the update! It's also special I'm sure as it shares the birth date of your daughter, so this one will always be cherished.

How is it carried? IE; Loose in RFP? Alone? With change and other items?

Great looking knife Pete. And I really love that damascus. It was nice meeting you (email) this year and I hope you and yours have a good Christmas and better new year.

When I grow up, I wanna be like you Pete! :p :D

Great looking Peanut and great story of staying true to what you love to carry/use!

Excellent Pete!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

But then I would expect no less from a third level guardian of the inner circle of The Cult.
:D

That is looking very nice. A couple months and it will time to take my Peanut's (and her peanut) annual picture. Time flies huh? Aren't little girls fun? Moody, but when they snuggle into your arms and fall asleep it's all forgotten. :)

That is so neat Pete, I admire that a lot!!!

I just posted in the "What knife for Christmas" thread that I will carry my constant companion, my Ebony Clip Barlow as it was Nine months yesterday. EVERY day Since March 23rd.

I've carried others as well but the Barlow has seen everyday carry since it's arrival

Have a very Merry Christmas Pete!!! Enjoy family and friends as that's what it's all about...

Paul

Gets better looking the more you use it, and the sentimental value makes it priceless.

Looking good Pete . That 'nut sure has some charactor and I can understand why its such a great fishing companion. Look forward to seeng it age another year. Enjoy your girls tomorrow and have a very Merry Christmas my friend :)

First off, it's a beautiful knife. Looks very much the quintessential, old school and traditional, always carry pocket knife of decades past.

The emotional connection to your family makes it special to carry and to use.

The fact that after two years of that peanut being your primary, always carry, use the most knife you've become a real knife user and not just a fan of traditional pocket knives. Well done and well spoken. In the process of carrying and using it continuously you have learned not only what the knife can do, but more importantly, what you can do with it and how to do most anything with it. That has a value that most people either don't think about, or don't get. There are deeper things there than words can express. A deeper understanding of and confidence in self on a subtle level.

Thanks for sharing both the experience and the warm photos of a fine looking and performing knife.

After two years of use I can pretty much tackle any task I need to with a little thought and care, it's a trusted tool that has more than earned my respect.

And for that right there you have my respect. A Merry Christmas to you and yours. Yeah, and to everyone else too. ;)

First Merry Christmas to all, and thank you all for taking the time to read my post and respond with your kind and thoughtful words, I was busy yesterday as I'm sure most of you all were, I'm going to try and respond to your post.

Sunandsteel- the peanut is a great knife on its own and a great knife to accompany another knife, I still pair it up with another knife most days, mainly because I like knives and my wife has gifted me some really nice ones, definitely give the mighty nut a chance, you may need to approach things slightly different but it can get the job done.

Arizonaranchman- I carry it in my coin pocket of my jeans next to my Zippo, I traveled a lot by myself and would go to unfamiliar places when I was younger, and did lots of solo camping trips, and always felt that having a pocket knife and a fire source can make a unexpected night in the outdoors just a night of camping.

David I enjoy talking old knives so our correspondence has been a pleasure, the Damascus peanut is great, I should carry it more than I do, after seeing Jon Sliders great pics of his in the landscapes of Big Sur and Santa Cruz, I kept showing my wife pics of Jon's and she tracked one down. The funny thing Jon who is another forum friend I talk to often via email, knew I had wanted one and tracked one down for me, I was about to purchase it from him when my wife said don't she also had tracked one down and put it away for me as a Christmas gift, I think Jon gifted it to one of his daughters.

Marius you are a true peanut man, I think you only carry a peanut and some keychain tools, how long have you been carrying your peanut? Must be at least as long as I have or longer. Always happy to hear from you and see you around these parts and are doing well.

Blueberry I wish I could only carry one knife, I like the history, beauty and diversity of knives too much to limit myself to only one, although I did for many years, but for me it's my peanut and zippo in the coin pocket, and whatever patten I fancy for the particular day or week in my front right pocket.

Street solider thank you it is

Robert trust me you don't want to grow up, I carried a Vic red farmer like yours from mid 80's till I lost it in the early 90's as my EDC fantastic knife.

Gevonovich my friend, yes it does get better and better, like friendships, your name ( the real one ) is spoken around our home like family.

Captain Call, don't think you can go wrong with that choice, I like the shield used on the yellow much better then the bone and stag ones, I wish they just left the shield off at least on the stags.

Carl I am truly honored, truth be told after being gifted my peanut, it was a online search and your stories that brought me to the forum. At the time the knives I carried were a Vic SAK paired with a Opinel #9 or a Laguiole that was my carry for many years. Then I carried a Boker stockman and my Opinel for many years, but I wanted something US made that had a strong pull like my Laguiole that's how I came across my #54 moose. But this place and my peanut infected me, and I hit the flea market and accumulated some fine old users and my wife buys me nice knives for Father's Day and birthdays, but it's my peanut the first gift from my daughter 24 days old that really got its hooks in me and your stories, especially the fishing ones, I never carry a tackle box, I hike back to places where most don't go, I use a old army map type bag and small tins for my supplies, one of your stories has a family member using a piece of tinfoil around a hook, and it's something I had done for years, I really identified with that story. As a kid I lived on a trout river, I would bring some line, hooks, tinfoil, and my Imperial Prov. R.I. Kamp King or yellow handled fishing knife with me to school, and on my way home go under the bridge and hand line for sunnies, best of times.
Thanks for all your stories they alway bring on a flood of memories.

Medicevans, time does fly, can't believe mine just turned two, my daughter is my best pal, I'm lucky she's very pleasant, but our second is due any day could be today, tomorrow etc. so we are staying close to home and hospital. Not sure how my daughter will be at first with the new addition, as she gets all the attention, but I'm sure she will be a great big sister. Do you carry your yellow peanut? Or did you put it away for your daughter?

Paul, what can I say, you are friend and a gentleman to all on this forum, someday I hope my peanut will look like your lawn mowing money red bone 62087, thanks for mine it is another cherished knife.

jsg71 & nonicks, give it a chance, it may seem too small in the beginning but after awhile it will seem heavy in the hand, good luck. Also check out the link in my first post I did a wilderness survival test with only a peanut.

Jeff thanks pal, your house must be exciting with your little ones, they must be totally spazzed out, must be great. The nut is perfect for fishing, how much knife do you need to trim and cut 5-7lb test.

Amos thank you very much, I do have a slight advantage over most as I have worked with knives, most of my life, so I know how to approach things proper, and use not abuse and put unneeded stress on a pivot, hold the blade not the handle etc. I still carry other knives, but the peanut is always on me, and gets used with pleasure more often then not. You are correct " The emotional connection to your family makes it special to carry and to use." this makes it the most valuably knife I own.

Thanks everyone have a great holiday,

Pete
