I found an early Buck 301 and thought I'd share some photos of the knife and an early BuckTool that I purchased several years ago. I would like to thank 300Bucks for his very informative history of the Buck 301 (Buck Studies 101: Intro to 301).

From what I understand, the Buck 301 is from 1966 or shortly thereafter. The BuckTool is from the first production run in 1996.

Thanx for sharing Supra , love the look of those grooved bolsters.
Maybe someday I'll get real lucky and find one of those !

Nice, I've never even seen a grooved bolster knife except in pictures. I keep hoping.
Did they use date codes on the multi-tools like they did the knives?

Thank you, guys. I hope you find one too, sitflyer. I also like the current production 301, especially the yellow comfortcraft handles. They're hardworking knives. DeSotoSky, I have a few of the BuckTools and if I recall correctly they don't have tang stamps or date codes... not sure about the box. I think the Buck X-tract has a date code on the blade and a date on the box. I'll double check when I'm at home.

I posted this over on the traditionals forum but someone suggested that I share the photos here as well. It's a 1986 Buck 303 -- another young Buck. I believe that this knife was manufactured by Buck, rather than contracted out. It's 25 years old and has seen some serious use and abuse before my ownership but I'm still impressed with the knife.
