Last sunday the winds off of Ike ripped through here, destroying trees and knocking our power out.
(Our electricity was restored this afternoon.)
Monday, work was cancelled, and I didn't have anything else to do except GET SOME KHUKURI ACTION!
My choice for the job was my first H.I. - the 20" Ang Khola by Kami Kumar, still my go-to khukuri for heavy work.
After an afternoon of heavy use, the edge was still literally razor sharp.
I was going through limbs/branches up to 4" diameter faster than my father could with a chainsaw. Three or maybe four cuts at the most and the branch was removed.
We eventually got into a pattern where I'd go ahead with the AK and he'd follow behind with the chainsaw for the large branches and trunks.
I got some more chopping in yesterday and today.
My 20" AK is still as sharp as it was sunday. I haven't had to even touch it up with the chakma.
There's just no substitute for a good khukuri.
