Well, this is my first HI khuk so I figured that I would review it. For those that do not know, I got this off of moogoogaidan.

Just a pic, tools of the trade!

The hardwood log from a recently downed tree in the area

20 good, slow, well aimed whacks got about 2-3" into the wood. Handle vibration not a big deal here. I was going to go for a timed event, but who chops fanatically at wood for a minute straight in the woods  nobody.

After getting the small log (about 6-7" thick) braced for impact, I went at it full force. I kept sending it flying (I'm 6'5" and 275 lbs) but it eventually settled up against my wood pile so I straddled it and was taking 1-2" deep bites into the wood with each swing.

This WOULD be a batoning pic...if I had not cleaved the wood in two with one swipe

With my first khuk, the McCurdy Custom Guard. Its a big knife at 16" and 3/8" thick, but the 20" HI CAK dwarfs it.

Overall, great knife. Does everything I would expect it to do and then some, I did not see that one hit cleave coming since I think that was white oak
Fit and finish are awesome, even better than I expected with it being a hand-made item. No edge deformation whatsoever, not even a dull portion to speak of after the test. Even the cho on this thing is a hoss, lol. I did the lateral test on the knife with it wedged into a stump and it just moved the wood. I did the draw knife test on another log and it was making tinder shavings out of the bark with no pressure and taking strips off with applied force. I even tested the karda on a small stick, it carved it up pretty good so I know I have a good little blade to work with. My hand is a little beat up, but then again, all of my calluses are gone so I expected to get some blisters. The ring on the handle didn't really bug me, but as you can tell, it really doesn't stick out much. I am getting used to chopping with such a large blade but the transition is coming along nicely. I learned the mechanics of swinging a khuk on my smaller McCurdy, so it is a simple adjust fire from there. I didn't feel tired after chopping, just a little tightness in my shoulder. I am in pretty decent shape though, I grapple, do muay thai, boxing, and I do crossfit/combat conditioning so I'm probably not what you would want to use as your Average Joe zero for this test. I could not be more pleased with the performance of this knife :D

There is some brutal magic to those monsters, ain't there;)
Congrats!

Thanks guys. I tried to be as fair and balanced as I could in comparison to my other blades, but this one is by far the best chopper and has damn near manufacturer/laser cut straightness to it. The taper from spine to edge is what lets it bite so deep but it is still a wide angle so it bites and sends chunks out. The edge is sharp too, not hair popping, but what I want a big chopper to be at. Good enough to slice up delicate stuff but still get the heavy work done. I think I might try to make a cheapo PVC sheath for it so I can leave the leather one nice and clean. The chape is actually blunted at the end, some of the ones I have seen from HI could pass as a spear tip, guess I lucked out:p. I was really expecting an edge roll or dulling on that oak but it just kept on trucking.

That's awesome Sean, I'm glad you like it! A big man like you deserves a big, destroyer of a khuk like a 20" CAK! Glad it's exceeding your expectations.

Thanks again Justin. It's too bad you live in a sand box and had to get rid of it, guess chopping tumbleweeds and cacti gets old, lol. Glad I could give it a welcomed home where it will have plenty to eat.

Also, Twins/Windy gear FTW! I just ordered a wall mount to hang my Fairtex banana bag in my garage. Cheers -- keep your hands up!

Indeed, Twins > Everlast. I got those Everlast gloves because they are gelled and were on sale. I want those new hayabusa kanpeki sparring gloves and competition MMA gloves, but they are EXPENSIVE. Did you order from TitleMMA? I like to go through them. They are cheaper than FightersWarehouse. I might have to start a combat sport thread in the cantina after I am done pretending to do my Linux homework, lol.

Chin down!

I feel that big CAK love coming on again!

I too was surprised at how brutal a 20" CAK is when I first got mine. Totally redefined what I expect from a chopper.
