Greetings fellow forumites! Yesterday I received a 20" Chiruwa Sirupati made by Murali Dahr (sp?). (Although the box was almost totally destroyed in shipping, the knife came out un-scathed!). The sirupati weighs in at a hair under 2 lbs, and is just over 20" long. The fit and finish on the blade is decent, but not up to Sanu or Bura's level. The Karda and Chakma are very well done (all three items are handled in wood). The forging on this blade is fantastic. After fondling it for about an hour, I can conclude that there are no dimples, hammer marks, un-necessary curves, etc. This man knows how to forge a blade! The balance of the knife really belies its weight, as it feels relatively light in the hand. It is fast, though not like an 18" Kobra. With the combination of mass and balance, this one promises to be an excellent working knife, and would deliver a devastating blow to anyone/thing that might happen to be in its way!
If this is the type of work that our "new guy" can turn out, he is a very welcomed addition to the BirGorka staff of artisans.
