Yep ... after a history of 2 bummed out 20 Gig clickwheel Ipods, it has now ceased to play one one side of the headphones. It's not the headphones, as I've tried a couple of pair and they both work on my wife's Nano.

Anybody else had trouble with this model? We've got several Ipods in the family and the 20 Gig is the only one that has given us trouble.

Post should have read 20 Gig .. Anyway .. Apple gave another new one to me. Let's see how this one does. Hopefully the 3rd one is the charm.

It seems that so many people have problems with their ipods. Thats probably why I never bothered to get one and just got a creative muvu squared. But I have never heard of one side not working with the headphones working fine.

My 20gig had a bunch of problems with the click wheel. I never got around to fixing it, it did cut out one one side everyone in a while. I cleaned off a bunch of corrosion that the had gotten on the headphones plug and it worked ok.

Edit:The corrosion was caused by the connection in the ipod not the headphones or environment.

Remember there are 35 million or so ipods out there. The percentage of issues is relatively small.

We've got 4 different Ipod models around the house including my 20Gig. Mine is the only model we've had even a hint of trouble with. Here's the history:

First 20Gig Ipod arrived DOA. :grumpy: Took it to the Apple Genius Bar and they connected somthing inside that had jarred loose.

40 days later, number 1 20Gig dies. :grumpy: Genius Bar guy gives me a new reman 20Gig right out of the factory box.

2.5 monts later number 2 20Gig starts having the problem I described in my initial post. Genius Bar guy gives me a new reman 20 Gig right out of the factory box.

Current status is a fully functional number 3 20Gig. If this one goes before my one year warranty dies, I'm going to try to get the Apple folks to give me a refund and I'll try a different model. I'm lucky enought to have a Genius bar within 30 minutes or so from the house. I likely wouldn't be this at ease with the whole situation if I had to mail it off for service or replacement.

If it is indeed the 3rd ipod and you have the serial numbers of the previous ones AND the Apple Store made a record of swapping the units out, you will usually get an new ipod of current manufacture. The only problem you would have is if the paper trail(serial numbers) doesn't track that you have had the ipod replaced 3 times. The retail stores have been known to comp a broken ipod without doing the required paperwork and that will break the trail.

BTW - the warranty on replacements is 90 days or 1 year form the original purchase date of the original ipod, whichever is longer. If you got the Applecare plan then it is two years from original purchase of the original ipod.
