I received my chiruwa 20 inch sirupati. Thanks Uncle Bill! It is stunning. I love the horn handles on the karda & chakma, reallu nice. The brass inlay on the sirupati is a nice touch ,too. The new super frog is awesome and I love the grain on the frog's leather. I don't know how to describe it, its got a beady texture. I absolutely love it!

The blade is heavier than I expected and I think its better suited to cut branches and thick brush than for martial arts. Looking at older threads I think what I expected was more along the lines of a Kumar Kobra as far as the blade thickness and accompanying quickness. This is not a complaint but something new for my wish list. The sirupati for its weight feels really good, I can't wait to attack some avocado trees. My wife has been giving me a hard time for spending so much time fawning over it, I can't put it down.

Again, thanks Uncle Bill and thanks Broken Arrow for suggesting the special order. Uncle Bill, I hope you're feeling better, we miss you. Take care.

Does anyone have a chiruwa and a regular tanged version of the same thing? I have the idea from somewhere that the chiruwas may be a bit thicker than the others of the same style. Did yours have the marking for which kami made it on the blade?

Far as being heavy for MA, the 20" Sirupatis do seem a bit more of a full battle rifle weight than an assault rifle weight. But I'm small, and even then, both my shop 1 and shop 2 20"ers seem quite usable.

The 12" is so light it doesn't feel like it's more than an extension of your finger. The 15" would probably feel the same to a 6' guy as the 12" does to me. Even at 5'4" the 15" felt light and fast and close kin to the 12" once I took the handle down to fit my sherpa size hands. But the 20" is enough to even impress Cliff if I recall his (?) post on "The mighty Sirupati".

There are several villagers out there from 18/21" with Sirupati blades and Chainpuri handles. I have a 19"er and Jim March has a 21"er we like. Real Chainpuris seem lighter than Sirupatis - the Chainpuri villagers I have are both 17" and one weighs 14oz and the other 20oz ( which is what a 15" BAS should weigh ). But the kamis keep saying that thicker is better except for Kumar.

Someone who's got a 30" Kumar Kobra please speak up!

Hello Rusty, my sirupati has the six-pointed star so I figure Kumar made it. I think he's a guy to keep an eye on. Considering how young he is it's going to be exiting to see what he will continue coming up with.

OMRie, congrats on the new Khuk.! Sounds like a beauty. Let us know how it cuts/chops when you've had a chance to put it through its paces. I have a normal-handled 20" sirupati--beefy at 2lbs 4oz, but it cuts through branches like a machete on steroids! It has the cutting power of a big khuk, with the slimmer profile of the machete (compared to an AK), and flies right through the stuff.

Have fun and remember, you can't give your khuks too much attention, no matter what our wives say

I don't have both, Rusty, but I do have a HI Chiruwa 15" AK. I believe it is a bit beefier overall than a typical AK, here are its specs:
[*] OAL - 15 1/2"
[*] Blade length (tip to center of bolster) - 10"
[*] Blade thickness - 1/2"
[*] Blade width - 2 3/16"
[*] Weight - c. 2 lbs.
Perhaps someone with a standard tang 15" AK could post their specs so we can compare.

As to a 30" Kumar Kobra, I hope to be able to comment soon.

Before he went into the hospital, Bill mentioned I should have it this month.

I still like stuff that weighs less than an ounce per inch oal.

OMrie, I'm glad you like the special order Sirupati. My Sirupati is also made by kumar. Very impressive. I was surprised that this Sirupati felt alot beefier than my normal Sirupati. I like the extra heft though. The blade profile looks more like a Chainpuri than a Sirupati, but is still cool. I spent about 1/2 hour to put a scary edge on mine, and now it cuts like a very sharp Katana on my targets! Now, I wonder what's next? A Kumar Kobra?

Comparing the chiruwa 20" with my village 20" sirupati is rather interesting; I agree with the poster who said that the chiruwa is better for work than martial arts. I find that with the chiruwa, you launch it towards what you ant cut and it doesn't stop for anything till the job's done... awesome cutting power and superb blade profile, slow to handle but an exceptional utility blade, and darned cute-looking into the bargain.

That said, I prefer the villager; it's slimmer and lighter, wonderfully fast and lively in the hand, and it still hasn't met anything it can't chop or slice through.

Conclusion; they're both outstanding, but if I could only have one, it'd be the lighter, slimmer version.

I got one 20 incher sirupati as well. It's just about the biggest knife I can handle in terms of weight. I'm keeping my eyes on the Gelbu Special now.

Pakcik Bill.

Do you think you still have any good HI Shop1 20" Sirupati leftover in your stock? ... OR ... maybe ... you have it under your bed! LOL!

I created a new thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum53/HTML/000015.html

See ... I created the above thread to get that OLD model from any forumites who wants to get rid of his OLD HI Shop1 20" Sirupati - LOL! ... nobody turn up!

NEPAL HO!

Well, I went out and tried out the sirupati on some avocado trees. Awesome! I'm getting used to the weight of it. The thicker handle feels so good. I bought some black, synthetic leather baseball bat wrap and wrapped the handle. I thought I would of had to wrap above and below the center ring separately, but the wrap stretches so much I didn't need to. Aesthetically it's not too great because I couldn't find any without an imprinted logo. As far as function it's outstanding. It feels really comfortable and I get a really good grip. When I swing the pull is distributed more evenly along my whole palm so it's not going anywhere. The tape is just sticky on the tip and the other end needs to be taped to secure it. This allows me to remove it for any reason without gumming up the handle.

The blade cut effortlessly through 3 inch avodado limbs. I was even slicing off pieces below the initial cuts one after another almost down to the ground! After an hour The sun was going down so I stopped. The edge looked untouched and still sharp. Again the weight is not much of an issue once you swing it around a little and get used to it. Overall I give it a standing ovation and hats off to Kumar!

Uncle Bill, just another in a long list of satisfied customers.
