I received my Kobra on the special deals (Uncle Bill sent it out, as usual, post haste). I expected the loose butt cap because that's the way it was described. What is the "easy fix"? Super glue? Or what?

Super quick fix: duct tape (electric tape for horn handle)

Quick fix (if it's a little loose): superglue

Pretty quick fix: JB Weld

Moderately quick fix: Peen the end of the tang to tighten things up. Do a search for peening and you should find several threads. A vice and ball-peen hammer are preferred, but you can get by with a stump and a regular hammer. Glue may come loose over time, but peening should be a relatively permanent fix.

A ball-peen hammer is *the* tool when you need the ball end, but any hammer will serve for tightening the butt cap. It's just a gentle (read slow) spreading if the very very tip of the tang where it comes through the cap. A slow tap, tap, tap will spread the tip and tighten things up, then a careful filing to remove the excess tang tip material. No clamping, glue or duct tape required. Just a gentle hand, small file and not being in a rush.

Thanks, Josh and Nasty. I'll try the peening method since that appears to be the "correct" way to go about it rather than glue.

Try the peening - hope it works for you.

Personally, I would have tried soaking it in oil/lanolin/ballistol/whaever for day first. If it's still loose, then peen gently. And then, after letting dry, fill any cracks/voids with blackened epoxy.
