Hope the picture shows.
I like to ask the forum regarding my concern on my 20" Sirupate that I recently have from HI thru Yangdu.
I found a hair line crack on the bolster around the top side. not sure but I try to insert a photo and everybody can see it.
My Questions is this safe, I have not try hitting anything yet with the siru and now I more concerned if I do that?
Please advise?
Thanks all.:confused::confused::confused:

Without pictures it's hard to say, but if this hairline crack is in the same direction as the blade, it's probably the brazing line where they brazed it (it's like welding) to attach the bolster securely.

A pic would really help, but it probably is the brazing line.

It does appear to resemble a crack or scratch, it's hard for me to tell as I'm no expert. It definitely seems not the area you would find a seam which would likely run in the opposite direction. Whether or not it would get worse with use, one of the more knowledgeable Khukri pundits will have to answer,

I've never seen the brass crack there. It's a pretty soft metal and is being shaped the opposite way. But metal does weird stuff.

If we could see a closer pic that would help.

The good news, it's not a structural issue. The bolster mostly just dresses up the handle junction where it meets the blade when it comes to khuks.

When in doubt, get some close ups and send them to Yangdu.

Hoping it is just a scratch, bringing it tomorrow... see it closer with a magnifier. Thanks

Likely so. I'm not a metallurgist nor an expert. However, I've brazed and worked enough brass to hypothesize a crack, that symmetrical and with that orientation, is highly unlikely.

First off I cant see the photo because its marked "adult content" and i don't have a photo bucket account so I cant see it. Second. You cant braze brass because the brazing rod is made of the same material as the brass and the whole thing will melt down when you got a good wetted joint. Since i dont have a photo I cant tell if your Siru uses a brass or white metal bolster. If it is white metal then you can braze it because "white metal" melts much higher temp than the brazing rod. If it is brass bolster then it has to be soldered (lower temp solder). In reality the white metal connections are stronger than the brass soldered connections because they can be joined with a stronger solder joint. On the positive side as long as it is not split or separated then both are unlikely to go anywhere. If it does fail then look for linear cracks along the top of the handle running lengthwise propagating towards the pommel direction. If you see that then expect total failure eventually. I may be exaggerating because I have no pics or no idea of what your case is but thats just what i understand from the dialog going on here. If you change your photobucket settings others may see the photos as well.
20" Sirus and Chitlangis are some of my favorite of all HI blades. Hope you get it right! Great choice on a fast and bad to the bone blade:thumbup:

OK I just saw a pic through "the grapevine" and it is running across the length so Id say it is a scratch or file mark from finishing maybe. Photo was not so clear but thats my guess. It didnt appear that the bolster was compromised but hard to say without good photos. If it were mine id use the heck out of it and enjoy it and keep an eye on it but if it concerns you then definitely contact Yangdu and replace it or get it refunded. You need to be confident you have the best product on the market otherwise that is not what HI is all about. She will make it good no matter what.

BB! Knife porn brother! Thats adult content eh?

Thank you everybody who take time responding my concerned. Yes it was a scratch, I have it remove and clean the bolster. Probably do a buffering later.
Sorry for over acting I quess when I notice the like....whew. Thanks all.
