Ok, here's the situation. In about a month or so I'll have a little over $200 in my knife account that I've decided to spend about $200 (give or take about $30) on a fine folder or two. I've decided on the list at the bottom for my top knife choices right now (organized by brand). I've included approiximate prices to make this easier. So my question for all of you is what one or combinations?

Kershaw: JYD II $44, Ripcord $80, ZT 400 $135, Spec Bump $105, Tanto Groove $53
Spyderco: Civilian $137, Salt Tasman $53, Endura Wave $54, Chinook $112 Manix $121
CRKT M21 $48, Hissastsu folder $55, Triumph $83
Benchmade: 630 Skirmish Blackwood $182
MOD: CQD Mk I $230
SOG: Spec Elite II $77
Blackwater: Recurve $128

Thanks for all the help:thumbup:

Honestly, watch the exchange here and snag a plain jain Sebbie. Any shape or size. Other people's users make great EDCs, as you are not going to put that first mark on it. Also they can be had for under $300....sometimes well under. It may take a month or so, but one always shows up every few weeks.

Could very well be the only folding knife you will ever need. ;)

The MOD option if you hunt around you can easily find a MOD CQD Mark I (yes I used the full name) for under 200. Mine cost around $190 lucky snare on ebay. I do not recommend it for daily edc use, however as the sheer bulk of it is prohibitive. I usually only EDC it during the winter when it can go in a coat pocket or IWB hidden by coat. Other than that all the other options look fine. Truthfully the Mark I prob isn't worth it's cost unless you plan on using all the features. I kinda regret paying the money I did for it. Having said that you can't go wrong with any of those you listed. Other than blackwater since I know nothing about them.

Of the ones you have listed I believe I would stick to the Kershaw's and Spyderco's. I do agree with So-Lo about a Sebenza, but that is a whole other thread. If I were choosing I would go with the Spyderco Manix and the Kershaw Groove. Both get good reviews on the forums. Personaly, I would go with the mini Manix simply because it rides deeper in the pocket than it's big brother, and from what I've read, you don't give up a whole lot in size. I notice you have a ZT0400 down, do you already have a ZT0200? If not then THAT would be the knife I would purchase! Good luck on whatever you decide.:D

Blackwater knives are made by Benchmade.

well if you have $200

Id recommed the Skirmish, and they can be had for more like $160 brand new from online stores. Then with your extra money id get a spyderco salt series of your choice because having a rust-proof knife is always a good idea. That should put you right around 200-210 range and you get a big awesome knife and a smaller rust-proof general purpose knife.

I would buy a Manix and a Tasman Salt. You get both serrated and plain edge blades with the combo.

Start by objectives.

What do you want your knife for? - EDC? Collect? ....

personally a EDC for me I would go for spyderco endura 4 wave (great knife for it's price, really) or for a bit more money, a emerson commander! Or even almost both for $200...

Or... a MOD mark I (or even mark II for EDC)... a emerson super commander...

dunno..so many possibilities...! Well, the best advice I can give you is to paypal me the money and I'll guarantee a good investement :D

What about new Spyderco Stretch (ZDP-189 blade, CF scales)? It's around $180. There is also Spyderco CF Military (available with BG-42 or S30V steel) for similar price

I would stick with Spyderco or Benchmade from your list- just my opinion and experience.

Sebenzas just never appealed to me, I don't know why, just not my thing I guess.
I'd love to get an Emerson (CQC-8, CQC-11, P-SARK) but the spotty feedback I've heard about locks and such has always kept me away.
The Spyderco military has had some tip breaking issues (or so I've heard) so that struck it from my list.
Thanks for the help so far. I've got about a month till I make the plunge and pick one or a few so I'm still open to suggestions.

Best $200 I ever spent was on the Bradley "Alias I" I just got. Titanium handles, frame-lock, S30V stainless blade, GREAT knife.

get a SOG Pentagon Elite 2. its a GREAT knife. sooooo smooth, and cheap. then spend the money on some spydercos.

I have a Chinook3 and love it. I would suggest a spyderco ,either a really nice one from Golden like the Chinook3 or Manix or a budget version like a FRN/VG10 Endura for 50$
If you want something that is very slim and easy to conceal the SS Spydies are terrific.
Again I would suggest the VG10 Endura plain edge.

I also like the Benchmade 710.

The suggestion that other peoples users make great EDC's is also very true. I got a lot of nice knives for great prices that had a tiny bit of wear. I picked up an Emerson Waved Commander for under 100$.
