I have just come across 200$ that I wasnt expecting so being a fanatic about things that go bang or are sharp I have decided to spend it on a knife. The question is what knife would you spend 200$ on? The other option is to save it towards the custom I am going to buy in march - just not sure which one yet.

So many choices, so few dollars

Personally, if I could afford to spend a $200 windfall on a knife right now I'd probably put it away for a TnT.

When you consider that everyone sooner or later looses
the knife they are carrying so I tend to knives I can afford to
loose. A $200+ knife while nice it's an expensive luxury that
I will not support. Besides, I like so many knives I can afford
more to play with if they don't cost as much. It matters only to me
if I like what I own.

So if you want a $200 knife go for it. Just remember what you spend
today may be needed tommorow.

If you have a tendency to lose things I would go with Tightwad, I have not lost anything since I was about 16 so I'm not worrying about that. When I spent $500 on a set of MonteBlanc pens everyone said, you'll lose them in a month... that was 8 years ago and they're in my pocket today.

Right now 'Dirk' has a used Crawford for sale in the Sales forums for $200 if you want to get a head start on a custom. May not be a bad one to start with.

Or you could save a little more and get an Obenauf for around $300, best bang for the buck going IMO. I know a few people selling theirs and I'm sure if you put a post in the "Wanted" section you could turn one up for under $300.

If you want to spend just under your limit and go production I would highly reccomend a MOD CQD MKII, kick butt knife for the money!

If the money being spent truly won't hurt you have fun with it and buy what makes you happy, you can't take it with you when you die.. ;)

I tend not to lose things - the BM 710 was an exception :( , I have a Mel Pardue that I carry everyday now that the BM is gone. I am not by any means rich with a 1200 a month childsupport payment, but can scrath together enough for a custom 1 or twice a year. I really would like a custom D/A knife with a BM 710 style blade, inlaid with stone or wood so we will see. I am commiting to a LCC manual when I get home tonight - my first MT.

PS. who makes the TnT?

TNT is by Tom Mayo www.mayoknives.com

Titanium
aNd
Talonite

There are other makers who have a model called the TNT but Tom was the first.

He has recently switched to Stellite instead of Talonite but it's very similar steel.

It strikes me as kinda funny how some people think that you will eventually loose a knife. I have NEVER lost a knife, not saying that I never will, but I'm always aware of my knife in my pocket. I was at a local gun/knife show this weekend, and there were quite a few people that looked at a $50 dollar knife and said "Why would I want to spend that much on a knife, when I'll just loose it?". I don't know about you, but I think that these are careless people. If you care about your knife, you'll do what it takes to not loose it.

The more expensive it is, the more you'll pay attention to it. I'm more likely to lose a $30 knife than a $300 knife.

I would scrape together the extra $ and buy a used Small Sebenza. I would enjoy it for a while and then sell it (if you can bring yourself to do it) and buy a custom. It should cost you no money to have and use the Sebenza unless you buy NIB.

As an aside, I almost lost mine this weekend. After a few frantic minutes it turned up in my parents' basement. Clip must have caught my coat when I was taking it off and the knife fell onto the carpet. Didn't miss it for a about 10 minutes. Glad I have the habit of tapping my pocket frequently to check that my knife is present.

Depending on your taste, I would look at William Henry as well.

You know you want that custom, and March is not far off. You don't know that you want another knife first -- you just want to spend the $200 on something.

Wait til something really catches your eye, otherwise you'll end up with a knife that someone else likes, and you'll be short of money for that custom, too.

If I had a "spare" $200 to spend on a knife, I'd take a look at the "For Sale" Forums here at BladeForums, and REALLY get my money's worth on a knife (or two).:).

Get yourself an Emerson. At 1SKS.com Commanders are 169, Waved QCQ7's are 107, Mini Commanders are 139. Get an Emerson and save some money til you think of your next one.

If you don't want to spend the whole $200, I have two suggestions. First would be the Spyderco Lil' Temperance; this is a very solid and sturdy knife that features 440V steel. It is also right at 3" which makes it nice and legal in many jurisdictions even though it has great tactical capability for those who are interested in such things.
If you are interested in a more sedate carry item, I would recommend a Brian Geyer flipper folder which can be had for $150 plus shipping from www.knifeart.com. This knife features a 2 3/4" ATS-34 blade, titanium liners, and carbon fiber scales. It comes with a nylon sheath and it makes a great low-key gents knife. Remember, this is a real custom for $150! BTW, the Spyderco can be had for $130-140 at various dealers.

I'd buy the SOG Bowie I have my eyes on.

Or I'd buy the SOG Trident that's currently on sale here in BFC.

But I don't. :(

If I had an extra $200 I would either spend $30 in more and buy a Busse combat "Badger Attack E". Or I would put it towards a Strider knife, any Strider.

Or I'd put in an order for a Randell Made Knife. But you'd need 250 dollars for it not 200.

You know you could always buy a Buck-Strider folder for that money. You'll have an indestructible combat folder and about $80 to spare.
