I haven't reached 2000 yet, but once I do I'll post the winner.

I'd like to thank all of you for being such a great community of people. I've learned more information on this website than any book I've read.

What I want you guys to do is take a picture of a local restaurant (no chains) that you love going to and explain why. If you're able to, put a picture of your favorite knife in the picture.

What you'll win is an old Hammer Brand barlow. It has a few small flaws, but don't we all? :p Once the winner is announced I will send you a message asking for your address/info. In fact, I will ship to anywhere in and outside the US if need be. Also, you must be a regular poster in this sub-forum.

I have a lot of favorites but this is one. Best hamburger in the area. I usually get the pub burger medium rare with cheddar and fries. A pint of Bar Harbor Real Ale to wash it down. Thank you for the giveaway.

Thank you for the chance :)
I´m in...

I don´t have a pic of my favorite restaurant. But I like a good meal and a good bavarian beer very much. My favorite restaurant is directly next door. A typical bavarian restaurant with traditional meals and beer. The whole furniture is old-style. The waitress is always wearing "Dirndl". You can have Schweinsbraten, Schweinshaxe, Blut- and Leberwurst with Sauerkraut and Knödel and whatever you want. Typical bavarian. The beer is from a local brewery, also next door. Good and tasty stuff... You cant get enough

To all the guys who ever visited Germany and Bavaria or Austria know what I mean...

Kind regards
Andi

Hey Vanguard, Thanx for the chance... when I first read your GAW, I thought, hmmmm, I don't have a picture of my favorite restaurant...But I do love Barlows:)
My favorite restaurant was a place called "The Old Salt" on the beachfront in Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. It was a nuthin' fancy kind of place and was open year round. Many of the other buisnesses were summer only. The place was run by some Irish folks and the food was always good, and not too pricey...the bar had lot's of nautical decor and also some street signs from England and other parts of europe scattered about. I used to ride my motorcycle the one hour drive over there from my hometown and get a bite and a beer...then walk the beach for a bit before the ride home. In the winter it would be the car ;) Sadly, one day on the news...there it was...All ablaze:eek: Yup! Burned to the ground...by a carelessly tossed cigarette:mad: it was an old sun-bleached building with appartments out back. They re-opened in a new location but it just wasn't the same to me...something about having a meal while at the seaside kind of thing I guess...

Here's a couple t-shirts from there, with a 1950's era Boker Congress for your amusement...

My wife and I went to eat at my favorite restaurant last weekend. They were closed...for good. The Lone Star Bar and Grill was an awesome steak and Burger joint that I remember going to since I was a little kid. To me, this place closing is like the White House closing up shop. It had been in business since the fifties and was a tiny little dive with only burgers, steaks, and chicken fried steaks on the menu. I guess that in today's health conscious age there is little room for mom and pop joints like this. I was so distraught that I didn't think to take a picture of the dead American institution that was The Lone Star. So my contribution is of the best steak joint. Located outside my house.

A favorite resturant? I have trouble picking a favorite in any major city. I eat out a lot, and travel a lot. But here's one of my favorites; I've been eating here for over 30 years. This is the Spaten Beer Haus in Munich. It's a bit touristy, but the beer is very good.

Now a favorite meal's easier to pin down. There's nothing I like better than what's called a "cold plate" in most of Europe; especially from the area's between Nuremberg, Prague, Vienna and Milan. Fresh bread, cheese, meat, pickled veggies, a beer or glass of wine; partake of that while sitting outside and watching the world go by on a nice day; that's pretty close to heaven.

@ eisman: We both seem to have the same taste of our food. I personally love the typical bavarian food... unfortuntelly - sitting near the spring let your weight rise extremely. :)

Kind regards
Andi

Oh wow, that "cold plate" looks fantastic, I can just taste it...mmmm

My all time favorite corner restaurant isn't where I live, it is about 2 hrs away in a northern Pennsylvania town called Wellsboro, the Wellsboro Diner is a classic "greasy spoon" kinda place that serves what we refer to as "diner food", homemade meatloaf, hamburger steak, sliced turkey and roast beef, open face over a slice of bread with french fries, and everything is covered in homemade gravy. It's probably the worst food in the world health wise but man is it good.

We get to Wellsboro every so often to go camping at Pine Creek Gorge, aka the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. It's also the town where George Washington Sears, aka "Nessmuk" lived later in his life.

Here's the Wikipedia link, and right up top is a photo of the Wellsboro Diner!

Thanks for the chance, man. I am sorely lacking in the barlow department.

There's a great British pub near my old apartment. The place is called Robin Hood and they have the most amazing fish and chips. Used to be that when SWMBO and I had 1st started shacking up together we would on occasion walk up to the pub and spend a good deal of time together. The booths are comfy, so we had privacy and nobody there minded if we stayed til the wee hours sipping imported beer, having quiet conversation. Many great memories of our time spent walking up and back from the pub, and we still regularly drop in for the fish and chips.

Here's a pic of the place: british-pub.jpg

And here is a pic of my favorite knife, the tractor green GEC Tidioute single blade scout.

I don't have any pictures of my own for this but would still like to enter. If I can manage to snap one I'll add it here.

The restaurant is Christo's in Brockton, MA. My family has been going there since before I came along and it's still a place I enjoy going to now.

Whenever I would stay at my grandparent's house for a weekend as a young kid we would almost always make it over there for dinner. I remember how they served soft drinks in glasses that had a frosted etch finish on them (and still do today). I remember the owner Chris calling out names over the PA in his distinctive, accented voice. "Jones, party of 3 in the Green Room, please. Smith, party of 5 in the Gold Room, please." I remember not thinking much of the idea of eating lamb or a Greek salad until I tried them there.

We celebrated family birthdays there, we gathered there for a meal after one of my uncles died in a car crash. If we wanted to eat out but no one was sure about where to go you could always chime in with "How about Christo's?" and everyone would be happy to go there. In many ways it's still the same place I remember from almost 30 years ago. Lots of memories.

Thanks for the chance.

I prefer cooking myself, so I don't frequent enough restaurants to have a favorite :)
