2001 is the last year the model 120 was a regular catalog item. I have seen them occasionally with
newer date markings under the Pro-Line banner and the current offering is a Boone & Crocket edition.
Were any standard 120's ever produced with a 2002 Anvil tang stamp or is that unobtanium?

I've never seen one, but that's not to say they aren't out there. They were produced in 2005 and 2008 for sure and these aren't Pro Lines.

The blade grind is different on those two, Dave. The "blood groove" is either longer on the right one or not in the same area as the left one.

I have one I bought from the Buck Factory Store when I was home on R&R from Iraq in 2009. I'll have to dig it out but I think it was a 2009 blade code and was not a Pro Line.

They were discontinued from the catalog, but Buck has continued to produce them for dealers who asked to buy some in quantity ever since.

Looks like many have asked, judging from the frequency that recently produced new ones turn up on e-Bay.

Those blood grooves on Plumberdv's knives are examples of the employees learning by doing on the new Idaho equipment.

Many weird blood grooves were turned out in the years following the move.

There were some good ones. I have a group of 2005 120s put away and I had to fight to get decent blood grooves.

Only 200 of these were produced and I have at least a couple (along with a bunch of phenolic Idaho 120s). Since probably a third of them were produced with horrible-looking blood grooves--I'm thinking I've got some rare knives.

:)

So, good to see you posting Dave as I had missed you. Nice photo of your 120's. I'm not sure on the rest of this subject. DM

I'm not too sure either, DM.

The one I have pictured almost appears to be done using the old equipment, yet it's a 2005.

Would be nice to have someone from Buck explain what happened in those years in some detail.

How the new equipment differed from the old and whether or not some blades were grooved with the old equipment.

BG, I've seen what your talking about. It looks like someone cleaned out the groove with an ingraving pencil. It looks real bad, and has caused me to pass up a few knives.

Well, I just decided to delve into the silent and dusty back regions of storage and I find that I have six NIB regular phenolic 120s and two NIB Cocobola handled 120s--all stamped Idaho.

The interesting thing is that the Cocobola handled ones have a blood groove that looks like the pre-Idaho (old) blood groove while the phenolics have the new type of blood groove that started with the Idaho operation.

Now why in the world would that be? Did they decide to put a better blood groove on the ones with the fancy handles?

Does that mean they still have the old equipment at Post Falls?

Paging Joe Houser, renowned Buck Historian for the answer!

:)

Back to the original question...do 120's exist with a 2002 anvil stamp?
(I've answered my own question)

Nice one Roger, it looks sweet to me... Did it come with the box??? ITE ...:thumbup::thumbup:

No box, just the sheath. The sheath is not marked with the "100 Years" stamp.
Compare with a 2002 119 sheath on the right.

Nice one, DeSoto!

I'd love to have one of those.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 120 of any year turn up. It would be nice to know exactly what years they were produced, but I doubt that there are reliable records.

:)

Since the 120 General was DISCONTINUED in 2001 we've seen issues in 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2011.
I guess the next appearance won't be until 2014. The name should be changed to Comet..... ;)
