Had hoped to see more on the NY show so waited to post this belated knife show that took place the last weekend of Sept. 2002 in Palo Alto, Ca.
This show was not originally in our itinerary but upon returning from the Alaska Cruise to Vancouver, we made a last minute decision to head south instead of travelling longer in BC before going to the Western Washington show--the only one not photographed due to the Gun Show restrictions on "no photography"
I was glad to find my friends Randy Morgan and Chuck Cunningham along with some wives at the beginning of the show after having chatted with Tom Mayo as we both were doing laundry at the local laundromat. Tom later showed me a nice Ed Fowler Pronghorn almost identical to the Bill Burke Pronghorn we picked up on the way to Vancouver.
But on with the show. Randy and the executive of BAKCA so a great job of having lots of draws (at one point, a new draw every 15 minutes), good table plans, list of makers attending, a variety of makers and collectors and a great lunch avaiable and a wonderful dinner and awards presentation.
Randy was a busy lad visiting with makers and making purchases.
there were not a lot of name dealers at the show but of course Paul Basch was having a great time and is seen visiting with Junko and Michael Fong. Someone was very lucky and won a beautiful Michael Fong folder in one of the draws.
one thing the makers always look forward to is the replenishment of their knifemaking supplies and they sure are not disappointed at this show as there were lots of knifemaking tools, woods and mammouth ivory--seen here.
Dan Pfananstiel from whom I purchased a knife last year had more of his nice work and is now preparing some oriental blades that he was able to obtain from the Bob Engnath estate.
Collectors had some tables including the wonderful miniature collection of Tom and Gwen Guinn see here showing a knife to my wife Phyllis
Another great collection is of Malaysian knives and swords. Perhaps Randy can tell us the collector as I failed to get a card from them.
There are about half a dozen images of their collection which I will intersperse througout this show report.
