2002 Commander or Super Commander, pros & cons?

I just spoke with TAD. I have a 2002 Commander on "pre-order" with them. It looks like their 2002 Commanders could take another week or so to arrive. With that in mind, I might just spend the extra bucks and get one of their satin finished Super Commanders.

What are the pros & cons of these two knives? My EDC is a Strider AR, so size is not a huge issue. I need your opinions!

Lynn,

It's everything the 2002 commander is, just a little "Bigger" I've found no cons with mine. If you like big knives, you'll like this one. Plus, it's got a true satin finish, something not available on a regular production emerson.

Lynn - Since your ISP has the hiccups, I'll add my .02 here with the rest of the guys. If you carry an AR, size & weight is never going to be an issue with you in respect to carrying folders. Today I carried a brand new True Satin Serrated I rcv'd from TAD just a day or so ago. It feels no different to me in my right front as a full size Commander.

In fact, I carried a full size Commander for weeks thinking it WAS a Mini. Long story. Don't ask. One aspect I've noticed with the SC in comparison with the C, is that the SC waves open more strongly (and with a more audible SNAP) than the C or the
Mini C. It seems to leave more room for "waving error" than the smaller ones. I love all the Commanders, and probably carry my 2000 SFS GH more than the others, but I think you'll make no mistake going with the Super Commander True Satin. You'll love the finish.

(stepping down off the Emerson soapbox.....;))

Al, thanks for the quick reply.

"In fact, I carried a full size Commander for weeks thinking it WAS a Mini."

Based on that, I just called TAD to change my order. My satin finish Super Commander ships tomorrow!

Al, two more questions.

"In fact, I carried a full size Commander for weeks thinking it WAS a Mini."

You said not ask. OK, I'm curious as all get out, but I'm not asking. However, if you feel talkative today...

"I love all the Commanders, and probably carry my 2000 SFS GH more than the others, but I think you'll make no mistake going with the Super Commander True Satin."

What is a "2000 SFS GH"?

I can't wait till Monday!

Hey Lynn...

2000 SFS GH refers to my 2000 Commander Satin Finish Serrated, Green Handle.

As for the "Don't ask" inference, It goes like this: My very first Commander was a Super Commander that I bought from TAD. Just loved the knife. I then decided that I would order a Mini Commander, also from TAD. It arrived. I carried it around for weeks. I thought "Hey...What everyone says is right - the Mini really can do the work of a larger knife..." COOL.

I then decided that I would go ahead and buy the full sized (or regular) Commander and another Mini, again from TAD. It arrived. I zipped open the package, found the little Emerson box that said Commander, opened it and pulled out the plastic bag, and thought "Crap. They sent me another Mini by mistake!" Then I found the Emer box that said Mini Commander (Huh?) I opened that and pulled this teentzy little Commander. I was like WTF????

Then it quickly dawned on me that the Commander I had been carrying around thinking it was a Mini, was actually a full-size that someone inadvertantly had inserted in a box labled "Mini Commander".

So now the Mini C seems like a little baby knife to me. I still carry one around the house though, and even bought from Larry at BladeArt a sweet Mini that's been customized by Frank Recupero. Over all though, I think the Super is my fave - despite how much I carry my 2000 regular.

BTW.....This morning when we went out to breakfast, I took my no-date CQC-6 I bought from Tattoo a couple of years ago, IWB in my sweats.

Sorry to sound stupid, I am new to knives and Emerson knives. Who is TAD? I want a commander knife. Where can I see the difference between the 2002 and the super commander knife? Is this a good choice for a edc?
