Can somebody post some pictures of a 2002 Commander? I might be buying one in the next few weeks and I want to be sure I get the 2002 model.

Also, where is the best place to buy a 2002 Commander? I know TAD sells Commanders. I can't tell from the pictures on their site if they're 2002 models, however.

Last, but not least, if I decide to change the chisel cut edge to a conventional v-edge, will that kill the warranty?

Lynn - I'm not sure if TAD offers the 2002 Full size Commanders. I have bought from them only Super Commanders I think, and those were indeed 2002's. Check that. I did buy a regular not long ago from TAD, but it was a 2000, also a fine model. Sounds like you prefer a bigger carry knife like I do. You might want to check out the SC's. The True Satin Model SC is actually somewhat less expensive than the hard-chrome satin, I believe, and exclusive to TAD Gear. They just got another batch of those in. Evan said that my True Satin Super Commander just went out today, so I should get it Monday. This last batch - quantity unknown - is half plain edged, and half partially serrated edged knives.

If you still just want a 2002 Regular Commander, I picked up a couple from Ida at BladeArt recently. They always have lots of Commanders, and lots of 2002's. Pics and all. If nothing else, you can always tell the 2002 from the previous models by their complete lack of a top swedge.

waynejitsu, Triple Aught Design (TAD) is at:

Kwaiken56, no, that's not me. I came up with that avatar when I was waiting/looking for my Strider S30V AR. The guy in my avatar represents how I felt as I was waiting (impatiently) for mr AR. If you've ever handled a Strider folder, you might understand the feeling. Do yourself a BIG favor. Do NOT get interested in Strider folding knives. Don't even look at them, especially the AR.

BTW, I just sent you some pictures of my AR along side my Sebenza for comparison. I couldn't help myself. :D

Edited for mispelling...

Good morning Lynn. Hey. I could have used that warning a few weeks ago. I bought an AR from a buddy of mine, and it was all over! He had a GB that I really wanted, but I settled for the AR. I was blown away when I finally got it. Another buddy then offered me his GB, so I posted the AR for sale, It sold just like that, and I got the GB.

I missed the AR so much tho' that I called TAD Gear and pre-ordered another AR, and a SnG Tanto. So....If it's not an Emerson that's calling to me, it's another Strider. The HT's are pretty cool too, btw, so that's 4 Striders and 14 gazillion Emersons

Even a Super Commander seems a little on the small side after using my GB though. Both fine makers and knives.

PS - Thanks for the pics! :)

John or Derek would know for sure, but I cannot imagine that changing the edge to a conventional edge would void your warrantee.

Sorry guys, I gotta give ya a solid "I don't know" on the edge issue, but honestly I can't see them caring unless you had an edge related issue.

As to pictures, how's this:

Older style Commanders, 98 through 2001 have the same screw patern to the body:

2002 Commanders have the new style screw pattern to the body, like these Super Commanders:

Also notice the lack of a blade swedge on the newer Commanders.

Hope that helps. If you need any more help, let me know

John

John, thanks! I knew about the lack of a blade swedge on the newer Commanders, but I was 180 degrees wrong about the thread pattern. That was the missing bit of info I needed.

It seems like I've heard the 2002 Commanders have a longer back spacer than previous models (which jives with the new screw pattern). Is that true about the back spacer being longer?
