I'm new to these forums. But anyways, I bought a 110 from a local store and loved her.. I found another on Craigslist for a decent price so I snagged it. It's different. It has nickel silver bolsters and cherrywood scales. I'm pretty sure it has the 420HC blade. Can anybody shed more light onto this knife? I cannot find ANY info on it. Limited run? Specialty knife? Counterfeit? Any help would be great!

Does it have any writing on the scales? If so, it could be one of the Chairman`s Series. If not, it might be from the Custom Shop. A photo would certainly help.

How did you determine that it's from 2003 (from your thread title)? Does it have a tang stamp like this:

Buck
110T
U.S.A.

That would be the stamp found on a 110 from 2003 unless it was from the Custom Shop. In the case of a Custom Shop knife the tang stamp would read:

Buck
Anvil (not the word anvil, but a stamp of an anvil)
Custom
U.S.A
.

If the blade is anything other than 420HC, it would be stamped or etched with the steel type. If it's from the Custom Shop and is 420HC it should be stamped on the other side of the blade with "Designers Choice".

Another possibility is that it was a special run for some company exclusive for them (such as Smoky Mountain Knife Works), in which case it won't show up in Buck's catalog.

The Chairman series 110 wasn't introduced until 2011, so if the 2003 date you mention is correct, it can't be one of them.

As JK said, a picture or two would be a great help in identifying the knife.

It's just a plain blade without any markings and the tang stamp is

Buck
110T
USA

I'm sorry I haven't posted pics already! Give me a few seconds!

That's pretty impressive Plumber. I would love to be able to date and identify Buck 110s.
I like the sound of the NS bolsters with cherrywood too.

May be that it is a Build out, assembled with left over blade from 2003,
the red wood scales from the chairman series and the NS frames from
the anniversary series. I dimely remember that those knives were offered
as a build out.

Are all Custom Shop knives marked like that, or just for 2003? My oak custom from about 8 years ago is stamped with BG-42 on the blade, and the tang stamp reads

Buck (in script)
Custom
USA

The other side says Designers Choice

My Indigo custom from 2012 reads

Buck
Anvil
Custom
USA

No markings on the other side (it is the standard steel)

Did they vary on how they stamped them?

You're right, I wasn't going to mention that possibility until I checked the buildout list and it is there. No date is given on the list, but I'll check mine that I've added dates to when I could determine them. Below is the description from the list. It says that there were only 19 made, but I've seen where those numbers aren't always accurate.

"0110BO10-B FLD HUNTER (BUILD OUT) CHERRYWOOD/NS HANDLE,420HC BLADE,BOX 19"

They didn't add the anvil until after it was used as the stamp for 2002 knives. All my Custom Shop knives from before 2002 are marked as yours (Buck (in script)/
Custom / USA. I haven't bought one from the Custom Shop in a couple of years, so perhaps they've dropped the "Designers Choice" since I got my last one with 420HC.

It's pretty simple for production knives made in '86 and later. It's not bad prior to that, but there were many variations that can make really accurate dating a bit more of a challenge. Here's a good start for you.

This is the '03 NS and red wood next to my '12 Brass and Madagascar. I paid $40 for the 110T. I planned on carrying it and using it like my brass one but I've read they only made a certain few. I don't want to abuse it if that's the case here. How much is it worth? Was it worth $40? I know I paid $40 for my brass/mad one and love it as my EDC. Quite heavy and bulky, but it has been in my pocket for a few months now. Well here's the pics, guys!

Carry and use it! Although there were not many of that one made, it's not particularly valuable in my opinion. Pardon me for saying it, but there's nothing about the knife that would make it worth a large premium over the standard 110.

The NS bolsters are cool, but although not as common as the brass for sure, they are not that rare either. The blade is simply an older version of what they use today and is no dfferent than your '12 blade. The "cherrywood" isn't! It's a red dyed laminate and is one of the least expensive wood offerings from the custom shop. You could build the same knife in the Custom Shop with the Custom Stamp very reasonably.

Thanks for the help! I didn't didn't is was actually worth much of a dime worth what I paid for it. I know rarity isn't nothing without justification so I might end up making my brass one a project knife and carrying the NS. Thanks guys! So basically, they made these knifes with left over parts from other 110 models?

I didn't figure it would be worth much more, but it is a unique factory 110. I'm thinking about making it my other EDC. I just trade a zippo lighter for this. Can't find anything on it either. It says Westmark Handcrafted Cutlery USA. Just wanting to know a model number or a model name. Was it worth a Zippo? Haha

Here's what I mean. The $73 price would include shipping and a fabric sheath.

I had never been on the Buck site before, I like the custom 110...I may have to order one...or .....more

Might be a good gift for my son with his initials and maybe the year engraved on it.

That would depend on the Zippo. ;)

You'll get more info on that one if you take it to this (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/f...-Levine-s-Knife-Collecting-amp-Identification) sub-forum.

It was a Buffalo nickel zippo. It came free to me so I have no losses if I did lose haha. I don't use lighters so a knife is a better tool for me. But like I said, I'm definitely new here but I'm going to explore this site very much more in depth! You guys are so helpful and knowledgable! Again, thanks.

I'd take the Zippo anyday.

One more thing, as a non-paying member you're not allowed to ask about a knife's value. Just one of the forum rules.
