It says on the blade ? of 300.
Were there only 300 made in total?
Were there plain edge & serrated Or just pe? If both ,how many of each?
Were all the clips silver?
What was the issue price?
any info appreciated>
regards,Rick.

IIRC, the 300 was the number that were etched as the forum knife. The remainder of the batch were sold without the etching. Don't know about the silver clips. I have the regular blue Spyderhawk (not the forum model) and it has a black clip. They were all PE in blue. The rest I cannot help with.

As I recall, there were originally 300 etched forum Spyderhawks (all PE). They didn't all sell so Spyderco buffed the etching off the unsold pieces and shipped them to dealers to liquidate the batch without taking a loss. That's why you'll find blue PE Spyderhawks with no laser etching. They are as rarely seen (if not moreso) than the forum pieces. Can't remember the selling price of these but I do remember it being quite high. High price was a factor in the lukewarm sales.

From what I understand, there were considerably fewer than 300, perhaps less than 100, of the Forum engraved version sold. The rest either were never engraved, or had the engraving removed. The non-engraved ones were sold through dealers. The Forum engraved version was only available directly from Spyderco, and the issue price was whatever MSRP for the Spyderhawk was at that time. I believe that it was somewhere in the vicinity of $90.

The Forum engraved ones are all PE. I believe they all came with a high polished clip, but can only say with absolute certainty that mine did. They all say nnn of 300. Mine is 003. The number MAY be over 100, as collectors MAY have been allowed to request their Collectors Club number. Because of that, the existence of a knife bearing "160 of 300", for example, may not necessarily mean that there were 159 others sold with the engraving. However, IIRC, the highest number I have ever seen on one was in the high seventies.

Imteresting thread.....I have one of these, blue handle, polished silver clip, VG 10 blade plain edge, SEKI CITY Japan and "Bladeforums.com Spyderco Forum 234 of 300" on the left side of the blade when held open in normal grip....btw I bought this from a normal dealer on the net, not from Spyderco.....any idea what this might be worth? I did not use it and didnt touch the edge.....

I've had 2 Blue PE Spyderhawks and the one used version I currently have in my EDC line up. I have not ever come across one with a black, barrel bolt clip. All of mine had Chrome plated clips.

Also for your information I have heard that the chrome/stainless clips are still available through SFO.

If you ever get a used PE Blue SPyderhawk you won't be in the least bit disappointed.

Well JD, I only have one of each, a blue PE unmarked and a Forum model. My Forum model, as I stated earler, has a polished/plated clip and bolt, but the one without Forum markings has a blued/black bolt and clip. If it were an eBay purchase I'd consider the possibility it had been swapped, but I got that one from NGK so would bet the clip and bolt are the ones it left the factory with.

So it would appear some of the non-engraved pieces came with sliver clips and some with black. Perhaps those with the silver clips are the ones that had been engraved, and had the engraving buffed off. That's just a theory, I have no facts to back it up.

Hi Deacon, since you bought both at NG, do you happen to remember if this particular model languished in the discount section until finally getting sold out or did it get snapped up faster than free beer at the bar? I ask for information for a point/counterpoint in another thread...;)
