2004 Khukuri Inventory - HIKV getting ridiculous

My loving wife was away today, so I was able to do an inventory that I had been thinking about for some time (she doesn't mind really, but better to keep the magnitude of things quiet :D). Wrote down each knife's details and took pics of each (and a closeup of the maker's mark, to make another reference chart).

I didn't find any khuks that I didn't remember buying or anything, but the total number did advance faster than I figured. I always think I have about 20, but the total is quite some past that, even after the couple that are still to be sent out as gifts. Some statistics from 3 years of addiction:

Kamis: Bura (28%), Kumar (22%), Sher (14%), Kesar/Sanu/Sgt. Karka (tie 6%). Others from Murali, RR, Shankar, Durba.

Style: WWII (28%), YCS/Pen Knife/AK (tie 11%)

Size: 17-18.5" (47%), <11" (20%), 15-16.5" (11%), >20" (11%), 12-15" (11%)

Handle: Horn (44%), Wood (42%), Antler (11%). If you include the single semi-touristy non-HI khuk, horn and wood would be equal :)

Now they are all back packed snug in their beds, with a new selection kept out for sharpening/handle upgrades/users. Perhaps this extended fondling session will keep the HIKV acquisition impulse at bay for a while?

Full-size khuks for two infantry squads. Small ones/specials enough to equip the rest of the platoon  My great-grandkids will be well-equipped. Enough that all the compasses in the neighborhood point to my house. Enough that I build shelving out of triangular boxes. Enough packing material that I can discuss the Reno news and weather...

I've got the same problem with WWII era rifles, mPisi. The joke amongst friends is that I can raise my own militia were it necessary. I hope they like Mosin-Nagants, 'cause that's what they're getting. My all-matching 1944 Inland M1 is mine and mine alone. :)

Anything enjoyable is collectable and anything collectable is enjoyable. It's great when collectables are also useable, durable, and relatively affordable. Whenever you have doubts about your collection, simply remind yourself that there are people in this world who collect stamps, dolls, broken furniture, rubber bands, socks, and every other thing imaginable. Excuses aren't necessary.

Buried somewhere in there is a *great* algebra question...

;)

Satori, my militia will get Lee Enfields :D I always wanted a gun safe with just No.4s, labeled "Infantry Platoon In A Box". I've got the khuks, but more than a bit short on rifles.

I did a similar inventory last year and came to the same conclusion. The statistical "average" khuk of my collection would be an 18" horn handled Bura AK... even though I don't actually OWN that particular one (yet).

By the way, over in the Blade discussion forum there's an interesting thread on knife "cult brands." HI got an honorable mention. :D

LOL! :D

.....<--extra periods to keep the character bot happy

I did OK this year. I didn't get TOO many:

22" Bonecutter
YCS
AK Bowie
2 Ganga Ram Villagers
Sgt Karka Special

I did buy about 5 axes though!

Time to sell, mPisi.

It's the only way you can afford to keep buying new khuks.

The more you sell = money to buy more snags.

Have you got a Sanu falcata? I need one.

Ad Astra (never good at math)
