Interesting year around here, huh? First full calendar year without our company. First year of the Taylor Schr****s.

So what do we look back upon fondest here in the forum? Our hardcore membership base has grown, many great new members have joining us. Most days we have more (and more interesting, informative, friendly, intriguing) posts than any other manufacturer's forum at BFC. This is the most important thing to me, the people aspect of it all. Add to that the steel of Schrade knives, the circuitry of the web and our computers, and here we are, an online community that I am sure proud to be part of.

Questions concerning Schrades are now directed (moved by the Moderaters) right straight to us, where they get answered quickly, with good humor, respect, staight answers. We got a new name for the forum and the link to the pretenders lineup was removed.

Great knife reviews by Codger. The man does a fine job for us. Excellent, 'take it to the bank' answers from our LT. Wry wit from El Lobo. The best off-topic posts from our south of the border Don, Luis. And from the Great White North, the always helpful Del, who made our forum look great by starting the Katrina help-giveaway. Photo asssitance from Irv.... I mean Larry. Glennbad keeps us from getting too focused on the OT and UH lines, reminding us of other great products from Schrade. Great participation by all.

Lots of high points this year, what have I missed?

To each and everyone of you...

happy new year.

Phil

2005 was the year this forum issued it's first forum knife, an event I hope we can continue. Phil built and drove the bus that produced this keepsake.

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=351259&highlight=engraved

It has been a year of discovery as well, as oddball prototypes, last days knives, and small caches of older Schrades came to the light of day, mostly on eBay, and mostly via the stock taken from the closed Ellenville factory.

The list of off the wall forum topics expanded greatly as well. I am at a loss to produce a list of those.

It has been a year in which some former Schrade employees have been greatly missed in their absence, and well wishes for their futures are still being sent by all here, and thanks for their contributions to our stockpile of Schrade knowledge and trivia.

It was the year that a "Phoenix" arose, showing us that a small shop filled with talented craftsmen can still make a go of it (Canal Street Cutlery).

And a year of making friends. Thanks, friends!

Codger

Phil,
My first year here, not quite a year, joined BladeForums in March. If a question about Schrade's needs answered this is the place. All the feller's you mentioned keep this place running like a well oiled pocketwatch.Look forward to the coming year, less than 6 hours away, being even more interesting and enlightening. To all of you guys,it's been a real experience, listening and learning.Happy New Year to all of us Schradeaholics. :D Doug.

Nicely put Phil.

We all still consider you the most official...unofficial...Megamoderator, of "Uncle Henry's Lost Souls"... right here at Bladeforums. The forum knife and goodies were something special.

A great, interesting, and very knowledgeable, group of folks seem to converge here. I enjoy the ride...it is at least an "E" ticket. :D

I haven't been here that long, but I have learned a lot and am looking forward to enjoying the camaraderie of those I've met here. This is a great bunch of knife fanciers and one of the best forums I've ever been on.

I remember the days when I first joined Bladeforums and how the Schrade forum seemed like a lost and forgotten corner of the world, with a small group of great people coming here, like looking for a cozy place to hang around and wondering where had the Schrade Company people gone. It was a sign of what was to happen but we did not see it.

Now after the Tsunami and the Hurricane, the Schrade Collectors Forum has risen and grown, there is a fine, friendly and knowledgeable community here, I have learned a lot about the company and the people who made the knives that I have owned and used since before my teens and still carry after my retirement, I have learned to appreciate the History and the Legend...

And I have found a great place to hang around and joke around, you guys are great.

Happy New Year!

Luis

I found this forum a couple months ago and it's made an impact on my daily routine:
1. Check the forum for new postings, new thread responses, etc.
2. Check eBay for Schrade knives within my means.
3. Copy and add info to the 7 Schrade files on the PC.
4. Beat the wife to the mailbox.
5. Check the Paypal account and add funds as required.
6. Do chores and work on other projects.

I've always had the necessary amount of knives and a few extras put back, but was not very interested in collecting or knowing more about them.I was strictly a "user". I didn't care much about "pretty" and an important credo was "we're here for go and not for show".
Maybe I'm getting soft or something.
I really appreciate the knowledge and experience that the regulars on this forum share every day! Thank you!

I see from the forum knife link :

Bill and Glenn, thank you very much for the kind words. I'll start work immediately on the 2006 knife.

Regards to all,
Phil

Is a 2006 knife in the works?

Happy New Year to All !!
Ron

Hang back on the 2006 knife I have had something in mine which may or may not come to fruition. We have some time. Excuse me still giving orders. Er please wait a bit. LT PS As far as 2005 same as last year. War, pestilence, hurricanes. famine is that all you got come on I am getting bored. WE ARE STILL HERE time, tide and even our species own stupidity will never stop the indomitable human spirit. We are at our best when things are at there worst why this is true I will never comprehend. We will rise above the tribulations we will overcome adversity and prevail but should we stumble and if I for one fall please be aware that with my last breath I will spit in fates eye secure in the knowledge that the good in mankinds soul will ultimately prevail.

Another year another challange. So lets see what ya got.

I, for one have had all the trials and tribulations I want for one year, but as usual I have to say well said LT.To all the great people I have met on this forum in the last two months I want say keep up the good work, you don't know the good work you do by supplying much needed information, good jests, and a break from the real world.Got the news from the Docs today I'll probably be around for a while so I'm looking forward to another great year of learning about this bane of our lives we call a hobby.Toby

I don't post here much but I lurk often. I've learned an enormous amount since I started reading this forum. There are so many interesting posts and there is so much to learn. I even have a small reference archive on my PC consisting of posts I've copied from this forum.

I hope 2006 is more of the same and even better.

HEE HEE another victim of Schradeaholism I love it when I help pass the disease on. Symptoms include having hundreds of knives ( and considering it normal) filling every nook and cranny of your abode, items that once were simple tools and of which 2 or 3 would suffice for a liftime of actual usage, now have become icons. owning 47 variations of a pattern that you used to carry and would use a couple of dozen times a year. divide that by the number of knives you have and you have to live to be 500 to have used each one once. Your most used expression when making a purchase is , "You can never have enough knives ". Yes indeed everyone should have hundreds of knives or in my case thousands. ( I hope I haven't passed above thousands ). Isn't it normal to spend 10,000 dollars for a knife I have, seems normal to me, but then again very few people use the reference of normal in regard to me. Welcome aboard all of you and while there are those who have surpassed my knowledge of certain aspects of this study ( ie disease ) it is I and a few others who brought you into this fold. ( evil laugh HA HA HA ).

A few years ago ( as has been brought out ) this was a forgotten forum. I told Schrade of the mistakes I felt they were making. They damn sure made a lot of mistakes. However people like Larry, Phil, Glenn, the Don, the superstar Codger ( said respectfully ) Del, woofer, and a host of others ( please forgive if I did not specificly mention some one) have turned this once misused tool into one of the best things to come out of Schrade and one of the only things that still survives regarding them. I only started posting when Tim Faust who was the Schrade moderator did not have the time to properly control this aspect of his job. As You may or may not know I very seldom post elsewhere ( preferring to torture only the select few here ). I thankyou for tolerating me. As you may have guessed my venting is often akin to therapy. This I feel is due to the gentle life I have lived and my wonderful optimistic outlook. Toby I am truly glad you are doing better any time the villain, disease, stupidity ( and yes predjudice for I do not hate people I hate ideologies which condemn the human spirit by inflicting themselves upon the inalienable rights of all mankind to persue in freedom its own path and direction) is beaten back I rejoice. No we sure do not need any more aggravation for 2006 but you can be sure we will get it all I say is you can knock me down but you cannot knock me out. LT

I grew up with an Old Timer in my pocket. When I heard that Schrade went out of business I felt like I had lost a good old friend. It was'nt untill I found this forum that I realized that I was not the only one that felt that way.
I thank you all, and hope that I will always show the respect you deserve.

Happy New Year, Rick

I was correctly quoted here:
"Bill and Glenn, thank you very much for the kind words. I'll start work immediately on the 2006 knife.

But trust me, that was written in jest. I must have a simple life, for I count the forum knife as one of my triumphs. I hereby pass the torch on to someone else; who will have my full support. Thanks to all who made the knife a success.

Great writings from all in the above posts.

We're all VERY glad things are looking up, Toby! Email me, will you pal?

Happy New Years again,

Phil

Well I am grateful for all those that did the hard work to keep this forum alive since Schrade is and will be close to my heart and soul when it comes to knives!
There are so many great knowledgable posters here that keep us fellow Schradites motivated and interested forever!

Here's to another year of keeping the Schrade alive!

LONG LIVE THE SCHRADE FORUM!

Phil,
I apologise for posting that quote.I dug it out of that link that Codger posted in this thread.
Come to think of it,he'd be a good guy to assume the responsibility for the 2006 forum knife. He'd likely come up with an excellent design like a 165 crossed with a Sharpfinger.I'd bet it would be fixed blade, anyhow.
Ron

I don't post here as much as I used to, but still like to pop in as much as I can.
Biggest thing I worried about for this forum for 2005 was that it would go away, but it has grown suprisingly well! Only a handfull of guys used to post here, shoot, your posts would echo sometimes...
But now it's better than ever! If only we could get some new, made in the USA Schrades to get pumped up about, things would be just about perfect!

Happy New Year Shradeiacs! :D

I think our friend lt632ret has someting in the works, not defined or yet finalized, but he is well known for surprising us with his creativity. I'm just going do as he suggests and hang loose (old hippie term, or was that Miami Vice?) and see what the future has in store for us.

Great forum, great people, great history, first Forum Knife(I also hope to see more Forum Knives).

I find myself coming here more and more, I've been a Schrade fan since the 70's.

Guys, thanks for including me with others that far surpass me in knife knowledge. I am no student of the blade, I just like knives. I always liked Schrade knives. I just turned my primary focus to Schrades once I got on this forum.

This is the first place I go in the morning when I get to work, checking to see who is winning the folder/fixed battle that day.

And I have had the fortune of dealing with some of you on special projects, like the forum knife (however, I was just a recipient on that). Rich felt that my hack sheath-making abilities were good enough to work a project for him. (although, we now have a real craftsman on board).

And there are so many new faces here, it's great. In a weird way, the demise of Schrade has resulted in a new following for the brand. Maybe most of it is attributed to the collectibility aspect of it. But the renewed interest is refreshing. I'm sure the other torch-carriers would agree on that.

I also like that we really don't need a moderator here. Sure, we trip over the line sometimes. But we also stagger back behind it. (Drown Royal !)

Now, I have always liked most of the schrade offerings, some more than others. I do own some OTs and UHs, but I prefer the open stock for variety. It was the jigged delrin stockman that brought me here in the first place. I am keeping an open mind, however.

Good news, the adoption papers have been finalized, Rich has agreed to be my second dad! :p :D The alamo bowie will now be known as the Glennbad bowie. Just kidding, LT. (we know you have it, though...)

But, really, in alot of ways, you all are like family to me. I am glad to be here, and share my socks with you! :p :D

Glenn
