2005 Catalog?

A Buck dealer let me preview his 2005 Buck Knives catalog, and I have to say I was impressed. There appear to be many new Mayo folders, a half-size 110, a new 111 (which appears to be a 110 with arched bolsters), and a smaller sized Folding Alpha Hunter. Lots of beautiful limited editions, too. (I did not see any new Striders, but maybe I missed them.)

Anyway, I would love to get my own 2005 catalog so that I can study the new offerings in depth. ;) Will it be available soon in electronic or paper format from either Buck or BCCI?

Thanks for any information, -Alex

BCC members will be receiving the 2005 catalog and price list with their March newsletter. The newsletter will probably be mailed before the end of January or soon after. By the way, this newsletter is crammed with great stuff. Kudos to John Foresman for bringing together what may be our best newsletter yet!
Please take note that the catalog and price list inclusion will probably cause a bit of delay in mail delivery. This happened last year, so we moved everything up this year to try to compensate. We do not send the package first class in order to save some postage cost.
Thanks for understanding.

:D :) :p ... and any other happy faces I can make!

Thanks for the response, Larry. I look forward to receiving the newsletter.

Hello --

I looked through the "sticky" thread pretty well and I couldn't seem to find the BCCI web site's address/URL anywhere. I'm curious to look at the 2005 Buck catalog too, if I could. Does one have to be a BCCI member to access the site?

Thanks in advance,
GeoThorn

The BCCI website address is Buckcollectorsclub.org. Sorry, I should have listed the address. The homepage is accessible to everyone, but to access the "good stuff" you have to be a member.

John

Thanks John!

It appears that the 2005 Buck Catalog is a part of the "good stuff." ;) I would agree. I was just going to be up to no-good anyway, checking to see if the foreign Buck Knives are more categorized. :) Does the Buck Knives web site usually offer the catalog for downloading?

"Half-size 110" ??....Would that be a "55" ??....Would that be "Made In the USA" ?

Maybe someone could tell us club-members which application / program will successfully OPEN / VIEW the 2005 catalog after downloading it?

Thanks,
DL

It's a PDF file, so the Adobe Acrobat reader will do it. If you have a Mac, the built-in Preview application can open PDFs too. I've downloaded it no problem and looked at all the new knives, of which there are A LOT! The resolution of the scan is not as high as some of the older catalogs, but that does make for a smaller download.

Get the adobe reader from here:

When will the 1/2 size 110 be available and how much? I've been looking for the "perfect" pocket lockback for sometime and this may fit the bill. Any pics or info appreciated, I haven't bought a new Buck in 20 yrs, but this will light a fire for sure. No problem with Bucks by the way, just haven't been able to wear out my pre-1980 112, which is a good thing.

How big is a half sized 110? Is it a real knife or just a novelty item?

I just bought a 503. I guess I should have waited.

Sadly, it appears that the 2005 catalog is no less cryptic than previous ones when it comes to country of origin. However, MSRP may give an indication of where the knives come from:

:grumpy: Taiwan/China?
  • Buck/Mayo Cutback ($44)
  • Buck/Mayo Hilo ($50)
  • Mantis ($34)
  • Pilot ($40)
  • Metro LED ($27)
  • Lumina LED ($55)

:) USA?
  • 55 Folding Hunter ($48)
  • 111 Folding Hunter Ironwood ($170)
  • Alpha Dorado ($78)
  • Tempest ASAP ($82)
  • Sirus ASAP ($90)
  • Short Nighthawk ($64)
  • Code 3 Crosslock ($72)
  • All Striders ($100-$194)
  • All Limited Editions ($130+)

These are only guesses, so I certainly welcome input from those "in the know."

Good Luck on getting input from those "in the know"! I have repeatedly made this request to no avail....and price can certainly fool ya!

My advice to all buyers: "Buyer beware" if country of origin is an issue.

One other Buck product I know comes from Taiwan is the Camp Axe. Add this to the Mayo Northshore and the China Walmart 303 Cadet.

Sure would be nice to see a complete list of origins here on the forums. Looks like the 2005 catalog is another failure in this area.

(This is painful...sniff, sniff....you disappoint me Buck)

The Buck Diamondback 3.25s and 4.25s *seem* to all be made in Taiwan, however I'm waiting for someone "in the know" to respond to my 'Were/Are any Buck Diamondbacks "produced" in America?' thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=330316

If I can give any advice concerning Taiwanese and Chinese Buck Knives I'd say to look at the knife before you buy it, looking for the legally required "Country of Origin" stamp. So far, the only "China" Bucks that I've seen are available at Wal*Mart, however, the "Taiwan" Buck Diamondbacks seem to be available at most any store that stocks Buck Knives.

GeoThorn

Taiwan is a U.S. trading partner and ally, China is only a U.S. trading partner....

I have a 2005 Buck "country of origin" file from Buck. If you email me a request, I will email the file back to you. By the way, the assumptions Alex made above are essentially correct. I have not checked the exact country of origin for each of the models, but I think he had the US made and offshore categories correct by Buck model.

Can someone kindly share more specs about the Buck 55 with us, please? Blade length, weight, look etc. etc. I am anticipating for this one, big time. :)

Not my category, but I have seen one or two.

Its about half the size of a 110 (hence the name "55")

Compare to the 503 in relative size.

Its a nice little knife.
