Found this article about how deadly waved Karambits are to police. He specifically mentions Emersons and cheap clones, picturing a well used clone with a six sided hole.

"This knife is quicker than lightning, much faster to deploy than any spring-loaded auto knife because it opens upon drawing."

He cautions against knives with a hole grip clipped to a pocket being particularly deadly. The author doesn't mention any other waved knives.

While the articl may bring up a good point or two it's little more than scare mongering IMO.

It was written 4+ years ago and kerambits remain to be of little interest to people out side of martial arts circles.

ive been carrying one on duty for several years. wonderful design.

however, i have never come across a kerambit, much less an emerson, in the field on a suspect.

most street criminals dont carry $200 folders, not unless they stole it and havent had time to hit the pawn shop yet or havent had a chance to swap it for 2 rocks.

I love mine too and carry it pretty regularly. I've never heard of anyone actually being cut by one, though. But I can't imagine it would be very pretty.

I think more people have cut them selves with kerambits than anything else :p

I carried waved knives (y'all have seen my waved, double edge BM630) while a criminal. I also carried MT OTF's and BM42 as well. The probability is quite low that you'll encounter a tweaker who carries $200-$400 knives though.

It's a big ass shame that if I carry knives like that back home in the UK I'm a criminal, weather I'm a criminal or not :thumbdn:

Some years ago, I participated in 21ft drills as the knifer. I 'killed' over 30 LEOs using a variety of trainers, but no karambits. Didn't have any at the time. Only once was an officer able to take me down. Knives are serious business, and while I obviously think they should remain legal, the Good Guys need to be vigilant.

This article has been around for a few years now, and even in LA you don't ever hear about a LEO's getting attacked with knives much less Karambits...without the perp ending up quickly getting shot. So while this is a good thing for our boys in blue to look out for, it's hardly the major threat that the article makes it out to be.

For many years, I thought the Karambits were just silly marshal arts gimmicks. Finally trained with one, and realized what a formidable weapon it is!!! It is now all I ever carry on the street (two...one on each side!).

If one is a LEO or a civilian carrying a handgun, great idea to have a Karambit on the off-side to defend against a strong side gun grab! And back that up with a LaGriffe....
