I wanted to share some pics from the SAR Helo Ops Training from last weekend. It is hosted by Wind River Search and Rescue each year and is attended by many search teams in the area. This year, the only Helo team in attendance was the US Coast Guard, who has certainly become a training favorite. :D

It started off with a briefing. All team members were given safety instructions and experienced members were identified and given organizational and safety roles.

Then the star of the show arrived.

The Coast Guard crew gave additional instructions and prepared the participants for the next stage of the training.

Each member would control the tag line as the patient litter was lowered to the ground and then raised again. The tag line is used to help guide the litter's position and to prevent it from spinning.

A training well done!

After the training, the Coast Guard takes the SAR members for a quick ride. This is to give each member a sense of how difficult it can be for the crew to make visual contact with people and objects on the ground. It's also just really fun!

I certainly enjoyed my trip with them last year. ;)

In addition to the training, some members took advantage of a certain sales table covered with knives. I'd like to welcome those new Rats to the addiction.

:D

Troy, that sheath is sooooooo "special". I'm sure its reasonbly easy to find in the woods though.

That belongs to one of the WR SAR ladies and honestly, it's much more visible than even the orange is!

:D

Thanks for sharing the pics, Troy!

My father in law flew the Seahawk in Kodiak for several years while he was stationed there with the CG. He graduated to the C130, and now that he's retired, he flies MD-88s and 737's.

That Howler sheath is pretty cool:thumbup: My daughter would love it, as she likes everything that is pink.;)
