Got mine in the mail.

In case you guys that don't know think that I look down on the ABS, have contributed to the Endowment Fund in the past, and have a 5 year Apprentice Membership, paid up to date.

Also go to the Reno Show, write it up, honestly and fairly, and buy a fair share of ABS knives.

The 1st Directory was published in 1981, the second in 1989, the third in 1993, the fourth in 2000, and this newest one, May 2007.

Obviously, printing is costly and slow. It is my sincere hope with new resources and officers of the Board, at least the Web version will be complete and maintained.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I got mine today and I'm impressed. Now only if it had BladeForum screen names listed! :D ;)

But seriously, it will come in handy.

was one in 2001 also. mine is worn thin. When you guys see Carolyn Hughes at a show, thank her, it was her hard work that got this directory done. L.B.

Don't know about that, on the last page of this one there is a bibliography, was just recounting it.

Who are you, again?

That is what the book says. But Jim Batson worked hard and published one with the same format as 2007 directory. Steven, My name is Larry Bailey. I've been collecting some 35 years. Usually I don't chime in. But I like your posts.

Thanks, Larry.

The back of the Directory does not list 2001 as a publishing date, but if you have one in hand, I defer, sir!;)

Look forward to meeting you at one of the gatherings in the future, if we have not met already.

Best Regards,

My last directory is dated 2001, but that may be the one that was published in 2000.

I got my Membership Directory in the mail last week. I can see why it is not published every year, but I hope that the next one doesn't take seven more years.

I got mine too, and as natural as my luck runs, they left me out.

Maybe my grand kids can bring the next issue to me in the rest home, and maybe, just maybe they will add my name to the membership list.;)

I am impressed and very glad to see such a comprehensive directory and informational pamphlet. Whatever the website's shortcomings, this directory provides a wealth of contact info, and history of the ABS.

I give it two thumbs up:

Clearly, Carolyn Hughes and whomever compiled this work deserves a well-deserved hurrah for the work they did co-ordinating this. I'll sure make it known.

Thanks, Larry.

STeven - If you'd met him you'd remember him, one of the nicest, genuine, and modestly knowledgeable knife guys I've met. If you want to talk ABS hunters, Larry will see you through the night.

I got mine yesterday and I'm in it!!!!:D I feel kinda like Steve Martin's character did in "The Jerk" when the phone book arrived:p

You know if the ABS were to put all of this information on a CD. Edit it every year (give a deadline date like Krause's knife annual, if the member doesn't fill out the information they don't get in that years issue) they could then send out an annual Directory. Each member could have their choice of CD or print version. They could probably set up a down load directly off the site. This would eliminate a lot of the printing and postage.

First year might take a little time, but after that it would take less than a month to update each year.

I got mine too. Apparently they dont ask for update info because my email address is changed about 5 years ago. Oh well I should have informed them. I do like the way the annual asks each year.

Hi wangyimeng,

Yes, I can help you again. But, don't clutter up a great thread with personal messages. Send me a PM or an email. You can do that.

Oddly enough the 2001 Directory had a copyright date of 2002.

I agree, the 2007 Directory is a nice one.

I got mine today and enjoyed reading the history of the ABS and reasons for it's founding. There is a lot of good information in there. I made it in the apprentice list. All it took was persistence and the price of admission. I only have three more years before I can test for journeyman smith. Just not that many of them in Georgia, maybe I can add to the list.
