I bought this from a forum member, and am quite impressed with the knife, overall. It's just that one side of one scale is lifting from the frame.

I realize that natural materials tend to move and shrink/grow, but this one is starting to curl up. I cannot take a decent picture, to save my life, so you'll have to take my word for it. The last half inch is curling up, with at least 1mm sticking above the juncture at the bolster.

What I'm wanting to know, is if anyone has experience with Canal Street's warranty service? I've read through their warranty page, and it does say "defects in materials," so I'm pretty sure I'm covered, as the issue is in no way due to misuse, abuse, or neglect.

Are they pretty good about fixing issues? As this is a limited run, with an exclusive material, will I be able to get a replacement scale? Should I insist?

What are your suggestions? I'm thinking of just asking for a replacement with bone, or something, if they don't have mastadon.

As this is a user, I am not worried about collector value, and would just pop it back into it's sheath and carry it.

I just looked at mine and the ivory hasn't shrunk, cracked, or warped at all. It really doesn't get used though.
I'd call them and see what they say.
I forgot what a great knife the Cannitler is! Perfect ff and all the D2 blades came shaving sharp.
Let us know what you find out.

Be nice to see a pic if anyone has one to hand, sounds like a great knife. Hope you get it sorted Daniel :)

Mine has shrunk a little but has stayed flat, it's pulled away from the bolsters just the tiniest bit. This was one of the forum knives that has seen the least use so it sits in it's box most of the time.

Elephant Ivory needs humid environment, otherwise it starts to shrink and gets cracked. I am not sure about mastodon but AFAIK the changes are irreversible.
