I'm about to become the proud father of a 2007 FBM Special Edition. I've owned a CGFBM before and I would like to know, from those of you who've had the pleasure of owning both the CGFBM, FBMLE, and FBMSE, what your opinions are of both knives? How would they rate in performance (chopping ability and such). I take it that the extra 0.02" and saber grind may give the 07 SE a bit more heft so it may out chop as CG. But as far as I know, the CG is no slouch at chopping. What do you guys think?

Hey Bro,
I can never say anything bad about a CGFBM. I love the feel and ease of carry of a big knife for a long hike. BUT pound for pound, I think the FBM-SE is the best FBM Jerry has made to date. The 2008-SE is about the same thickness from what I've read and it's flat ground, were the 2007-SE is Saber. For me I'd give it up for the FBM-SE-07.
CONGRATS by the way!!!

Russ, like you said, there is definitely nothing bad to say about the CGFBM. I loved mine for the time I had it but I didn't use it as much as I wanted to. I like the CBT on the CG but there is something about saber grinds that is so dang sexy :D.

Congrats on your 07 SE!!!

Both the 07 and 08 FBM SEs are best of the Fusion breed IMHO.
Both are .270" thick, the 07 SE having a saber ground blade in double cut finish
and the 08 SE having a full height flat ground satin blade.

The saber grind on the 07 SE gives it more of a blade heavy balance
and the the full flat of the 08 SE brings the balance more towards neutral.
Both are still blade heavy in balance, but slightly more so on the 07 SE.
The balance being more neutral on the 08 SEs, brings a little more ease and control for the finer knife tasks.

My favorite of the two is the 08 SE.
Most of these had a false sharpened swedge / clip point...
There are only a handful with a beveled clip like on the LEs.

Congrats again on your 07 FBM SE... they are awesome!
Guyon will be along shortly to tell you the 07 SE is the absolute best. :)

But I think that's because he doesn't own the 08 SE. :D :p

Best FBM ever made IMO. Great balance of weight, length, thickness, and scale thickness. Saber grind is excellent.

The only minuses are that the forward swedge chews up wood a little more when batoning, and the scales aren't micarta.

Someone here had Horton grind a FFBM down to .27 to match the 07 SE.

I almost sold my only FFBM, but then I decided to hang onto it after seeing the outcome with the Horton mod.

Lil Foo,

You are almost killing me Bro!!! I'm going to have to find a 2008 FSH and FBM. Man they are pretty and I am beginning to prefer satin in blade for sure.

i wouldnt call a 2007 blade show special edition FBM my grail, but i sure as hell would like to have one

I had just walked into Blade, the 07 SE FBM's had just hit the trough, and I was way in the back of the frenzy. Someone, I think it was Barb, handed me a cardboard sheath with "2007 Special Edition FBM" written on it and said, "You want one of these?" I wasted no time snatching that sheath and saying "Thank you!"

I had a 2007 SE FBM, until Cobalt offered me this custom SHBM in trade, with just a little cash on my part to even it up.

I bought that one from Cobalt and just sold it a while back to Balislinger in Texas

she's been on a nice trip around the Continent :D

LOL. Yeah, there were three of them; I think one has since been modded, or had the scales changed.

I was on a quest for an 07 for a while, but couldn't pull the trigger. I actually got to hold the modded FBM done by Horton at Blade. Had a great feel. It belonged to NewBob at the time, who had just snagged it from Dobywon. I was fortunate enough to snag a .28 FBM on Friday at Blade and hands down the .27/.28 FBMs are my personal favorite in the FBM line.

We want to see pics of it being beaten, uh I mean used:D

Yeah, NewBob's Horton-modified FBM is really awesome. I think Jeremy mentioned it mic'd at 0.268" or something so it sure was about the weight/thickness of an 07 SE. But it looked like it had a lower saber grind, which is unique for sure. I'll be sure to post some pics if, errr, I mean when I beat on her!
