I was in a Bass Pro a while ago and ran across this one. Went ahead and got it even tho I am not into 300's. Just thought it interesting, and the price seemed ok. $20

Just thought some of you may want to know.

I bought one of those for the COLONEL (my father-in-law) back in June for Father's day. He really liked it. The next weekend he turned 88 and we took him to his favorite resturant and he was carrying the toothpick. DM

I realize people don't much like the China made knives on this forum. But I did buy a small trapper that was made away. Summer of 07 Dad came up to visit and didn't bring a pocket knife with him. So I set my box of EDC knives in front of him at the breakfast table the first morning and said "pick out something to use while your here." There was a 307,301,701,501,500,LB5,112,110, a couple of stag Boker copperheads, some Spydercos, and a few others AND the trapper.

He picked out the trapper, carried it all week and when he got ready to leave asked if he could have it. So, he liked it alot and has it back home with him. The thing is he IS a knife guy and was quite pleased with his new Chiny Buck Trapper.

This one has a 10/27/08 date on it. Didn't know they also came out earlier in the year

Thats the first Iv'e seen.....Cooool. Are any of the slippies USA now?

There were others hanging there that were made in the US. I didn't pay a lot of attention to any of them.

Normally, I'm in the "Made in USA" camp, but I gotta' say that card pack would be a nice stocking stuffer for a kid.

OK,

I am feeling guilty, for a year on and off I have been EDCing a 372 trapper collectors edition. I found one that had a scale more brownish than reddish. It had a good fit and finish, has stayed decently sharp. Not as sharp as the old 440 but sharp. I have bought one other the first China model laminated wood scale 303 stockman. It is in the "box". I do alternate edc with a old 440 303 USA made (Schrade contract). In my shame I did this if I thought I would have to cut in public.
I have not stabbed myself or anyone else with China Buck, my pocket has not split open or any body parts near by have melted--yet. I most likely won't replace this one if I lose it. I will wait till they come home to Idaho. I just am having a spell where I like a knife that length and with just a single equal size blade on each end. It's "knife kharma" seems good in my hand and to my eye. If it just said Buck, USA.........I may not be a perfect patriot but I feel better not hiding the truth. I am set free....

300bucks

300, I tell suspects all the time, 'you'll feel better if you talk about it", apparently it's true!

It's after Christmas now, but the price is still good at BassPro. It probably will be until they're all gone. I called the closest store today, and they set some aside for me.

These are probably the only "Chinese" Buck knives I'll ever buy, but at this price, I might just buy all of them.

Other then being made off-shore, I can't find much wrong with the Chi-Bucks, although I like the red "bone" better then the wood. I need a canoe to finish a complete set of the wood. They're easy to find on the net, since only a few models are available at our Wally World, but you have to pay shipping. When we have company that shows an interest in my knife collection, my wife is notorious for saying, "Well, give them one. You have so many!" So I use the Chi-Bucks as my give aways. They're easy to replace and they are a Buck. I do EDC these versions at times, but mostly, I stick to a 301, along with a 110 or a 112 for backup. I buy American whenever I can, and when I have a choice, but at least, Buck does get the benefit of the sales of the Chinese made knives, so I don't feel too bad.

I'd been thinking about that myself. If making some offshore helps Buck's bottom line and enables them to keep producing others here in the USA, isn't that a redeeming factor? Seems like it to me.
