i posted the buffalo back in november '08 looking through my photos i realized i hadnt posted the final buffalo and the elk, i did both of these for a family friend, both were then mounted in black shadow box frames and given as gifts.
ive got a ways to go yet but didnt turn out too bad for my fourth and fifth piece. Just thought i'd share and see what y'all thought.
P.S. No tracing both drawn and scrim'd by me! for better or worse!:D
thanks

Ivan,
Great work ! Your doing fantastic with your shading ! From one rookie scrimshander to another I'd say these examples show that you've got it ! I'm working on my 3rd right now and it blows away the first 2 that I did so I'm pretty stoked. Can't wait to see what you come up with next !

thanks, i hadnt tried drawing wildlife in 20 years or so, it was a pain but a joy compared to the McArt i'm required to create at my job. I'm a graphic designer/artist and its pretty souless:(
This kinda stuff keeps me sane.
Actually i remember a piece you posted, i believe it was lettering and a scroll/banner, very difficult and i remember you did a fine job on it, you use stippling for the shading? I havent the patience for stippling, caught all kinds of hell for it from some guys in college:D
Dont know when i'll get to another piece but i love doing it.
thanks for the praise

Ivan,
I do find that I have much better control using stippling but will use scratches also if it helps to get the desired effect. All of my practices are definatly changeable as I'm only on my 3rd piece but I prefer stippling at this point. It is a very slow process for me and patience is a virtue !

you might try it on corian its not as nice as a natural material but its $2 dollars a tile and they have 2 or 3 shades that look nice i believe i used bone or buttercream... ordered it straight from Dupont
it's alot of material to scrim and works surprisingly well, now using it on a blade i'm not sure i would cause its really heavy and can chip something fierce. My friend is chomping at the bit to get me to work on a more acceptable surface:D all in good time, i tell him

Fantastic! If I could do work like that I'd make two of them and spend the rest of my time just admiring them.

for the kind words, you should give it a shot, a friend of mine isnt an artist but still enjoys doing his pieces and they look pretty good...
cheers
