I picked up the large ( 0486BKS-B) and medium (0482BKS-B) Bucklite Max from SMKW. I have over 50 110s, 8 120s, 10 119s, and 20 other assorted Bucks, so I am a Buck fan. I never had a Bucklite before. I am a little disappointed with the materials and quailty on these. I guess since I have obtained most of my 110s for around $5 to $10 more than the $16 and $20 I paid for these, I expected a bit better knife from them. I am glad I added them to the collection, but I don't really think they are the normal bang for the buck Buck....:(

Tom,
I havent handled a new Bucklite so I wont make a comment on them. But I do have an older style 442 with a pocket clip that I picked up on the bay for about $10 which I absolutely love. They are auctioned regularly and either nib or mint are easy to come by. IMHO you'll like it.

Of course one of your assorted my be one of these and I'm preachin to the chior. If so disregard

Tom,No the Bucklites are not the best dressed gentleman at the dance. But have you ever used them? They are more like the mechanic that changes the oil in your car.He preforms a vital service for you and you don't have to get dirty.Just drive the car knowing whats under the hood is good to go.DM

Thanks for the comments so far. As stated I am a big Buck fan and have many Bucks, and I was excited about the thumb stud on a 110 styled Buck. I just feel that if you were a new comer to the Buck line of knives and one of these was your first experience, then I don't think you would be putting Buck at the top of your knife list. I have a ton of Kershaw knives also, and I felt the same way about a model they put out call the "Oso Sweet". It is within ten dollars of some much higher quality offerings of theirs but is far lacking when compared to them. I totally understand the offering of different levels of quailty, but I do believe these will not leave a good impression on a new Buck customer, and in 20 or 30 years from now you won't be hearing the great stories about the value of these as you do the 110 ( which is still a great value)...

I like my 486. A 110 blade that is light to carry with a pocket clip. I can't feel it in my work pants pocket, and with a cell phone & a Bucklite Tool already on my belt, I don't feel nakid without a 110 & sheath hangin' on. Like Dave said...$20 and made in the USA, I think its a winner.

Hi Tom,

I'm not a fan of plastic knives, The Bucklites are just what you are paying for...an inexpensive light for the pocket utility knife. That said tom, you may want to try one of the older 180 crosslock Bucks. It's the only plastic Buck knife I love.

JB I have 8 of the old cross locks I got from Kmart in the 1990s. Like I said I am a big Buck fan just let down a bit by these. I guess since alot of the 110s I got at Walamrt for $18 to $30 ( XMAS close outs thrown in) I expected a bit more. I will use them and see how they are. Thanks all.

Tom,

I to was underwhelmed with my Bucklight Max. It is lite weight, it has a thumbstud, and a clip. Of course, like JB I'm generally not a fan a economy plastic knives. I got mine at Knifecenter so the price including shipping is actually over the Wally World 110s I like to buy and rehandle. My Max has been bannished to the tackle box.

Also, be careful using the thumbstud to open, you can get your finger on the business side of the blade.

Ok Tom that said,

What is your thoughts on the old 180's?

I feel for you Tom. I hate it when you get somthing with high hopes and it's not up to your expectations....and if it is not, it never will be!!! I have an expensive Buck CS 112 that is not what I expected:(...still bothers me that I did not send it back.

I'm sure I would be in your shoes if I bought a Bucklite. I just never liked the way they looked, so I never bought one:thumbup:

Got to go with jb on that. There are a few Bucks I don't like the looks of and the lite's, old or new are one of them. I only have one and it came as part of a package deal.

Buck makes so many great knives that I love, that I'll forgive them for lite's.:D

I carried the cross lock as my EDC for about two years, which I why I bought sooo many more of them. I liked it! These two lite's are no where near as good and I won't have more than what I already own of them.....

well once again one size dont fit all !
i have had like 4 cross locks,
i had one that had an issue and it bit me..badly
so each of them has gone to other lovers!
[well i do have one left and that is being given to some one already..]

I do like the early Buck lites. They are well made and strong enough handle material. My wife carries an uses hers all the time. The one I use is the Selector.Very lite, strong and a good feeling handle. You barely know you have it in your pocket.I carry mine mostly in the sheath.I've used it on tons of cutting needs and it performs flawless. The one piece
style handle Bucklites are even better as they have a lanyard hole and are even lighter and still strong. The original handle of the 110/112 w/ brass and wood has more eye appeal and heft. So, I can see the appeal of that and carry one of those often.DM

I also prefer the older BUCKLITES. Carried a black 426 for 11yrs at work. They dont make them like they used to, thats a fact. But for under $20 and USA made, i aint complaining.
