I was at my regular Tuesday night dart game and our captain was trying to expose some point on a recalcitrant grease pencil to keep score with. After not being able to remove sufficient wrapper by hand, he pulled out a cheap $5 pocket knife that was duller than a butter knife, further mangling the pencil. I pulled out my Forum knife (came surprisingly sharp out of the box, might need a strop, if that), opened the wharncliff and told him "now be careful, this is really sharp, go gentle". No sooner did he start pushing the blade(rather hard), then it lopped off the end of the pencil and went deep into his knuckle. Then I got to practice some first aid skills. Luckily it wasn't his throwing hand.

:D Evidence of someone NOT familiar with a sharp knife!

This is why I never loan knives...lol. The vast majority of the folks I know keep a edge on their pocket knives that make a butter knife look downright sharp. Well...maybe not that bad but close, they think those little handheld sharpeners, the ones they sell in the kitchen section of wally world, do a great job.

I hope you won your matches and your captain recovered. I wasn't so lucky with my forum knife, I am still working on getting a decent edge on it.

"Once Bitten Twice Shy" should apply:D People who aren't used to what a sharp knife is all about soon learn.....real quick style:eek:;)

Same type of thing happens to me at work all the time. Now, my coworkers know to expect that my knife is like a razor, and they wince when they see me lend one to someone unfamiliar with my knives.

I like razor sharp blades and strong springs (not nailbreakers) so when my brother-in-law wants to look at one of my knives, particularly one with half stops, I always warn him to be careful. Plus, I always get the same question, "Does this one lock?" and the answer is "No, it's another slipjoint". Have had only one close call.
