I read that it has a Mod #28 "Woodsman" drop point hunter with a full exposed tang handle with border patrol shaped scales. It is of 3/16 stainless stock and costs 385 dollars.

It basically is a full size model the RKS #5 miniature knife that was sold to members. At least that's what I heard.

Yep, and I'll bet I know where you "heard" it, too. I'm more excited about the ivorite handle material myself.

You know, the more I look at this knife, the more it reminds me of my trusty S30V Buck Vanguard. Except it has a Micarta handle instead of rosewood. And inferior steel. And costs four times as much.

Oh, I'll probably buy one anyway, but I'm having a harder time getting excited about this one than a lot of other Randalls.

Well, I don't think you'll find anyone in the knife world who knows what he's talking about who will argue that a high-carbon 440B or low-carbon 440C blade is superior, or even comparable, to S30V.

Ok, you know what you are talking about since you are "in the knife world". So please expound if you will on the superior properties of S30V realtive to 440B and/or 440C.

There are probably hundreds of thousands of pages of discussion on that topic here. Rather than waste my time re-hashing it all again, I suggest you spend a little time reading through all of the existing posts.

Not even the courtesy of a link? Maybe a name of one of those in the "knife world" that is in the kniow that would make my search a bit easier? Only one that knows what he is talking about of course please.

You have access to the same Internet as I do; I think you're capable of doing a search (which is exactly what I'd have to do).

is so correct about what he has stated, s30v steel is used by such as microtech, chris reeve, benchmade--high end, and countless other high end production blades, not to mention your custom makers that use this steel.

Yes, but Randall's steel has worked for every single task I have ever asked a knife to do, so S-30V wouldn't have been better (FOR ME). By the way, I have several S-30V knives, and I think they're GREAT--the same with D2 steel, which is just as great (but different). For that matter, there are several other good steels. You can't expect Randall to offer every steel in the knife industry, so they deliver one or two kinds that work well.

The point is that "better" is in the eyes of the beholder, and we all should respect what the beholder chooses.

(just my opinion)

No argument, Steve. Sometimes you have to put the head on "hold" and go with your heart. My heart will always be with Randalls. Except when they offer knives only in Micarta handles. They kinda lose me there.

Your heart will always be with Randalls? Hard to believe as much as you criticize them. First the steel is inferior, and now it isn't any good because it only comes with a micarta handle. You are the kind of guy that would win the lottery and complain because you had to pay taxes on it.

For someone who has so few post on this site, and demands so much from others who have been around a lot longer than your, or me; I am just wondering why you have such a huge chip on your shoulder.

I wonder the same thing myself. I've been more patient than most, because I was young, stupid, and full of myself once too, but it's really getting kind of ridiculous.

Not a chip at all 47, just looking for information. That is what the forum is for isn't it, sharing information? There just happens to be a blatherskite or two on this forum making comments often presented as fact, yet when questioned about what their opinion is based on, they become surly and I become that bad guy for asking. God forbid you ask someone here to explain anything. No, what is said is gospel.

I don't think the RKS site has this problem. Maybe that is why there is little or no participation here. One or two people run the show here as there own personal chat site while they pat each other on the back.

It's curious that you find so much of a difference between this site and the RKS site, because it's mostly the same people.
