Spotted Spalted Maple and Camphor.

Has anyone seen knives with these types of wood before? I know I haven't. Should be interesting.

Niiice, any chance for damascus? Where did you get this? Any pics?
Good news, it's been too long since I got a CR :)

Where did you get this?

From the source. I was asking about another item and Heather told me this as a bonus. or was it Charmaine? Anyway, I wanted to see if anyone here had seen these woods used on knives or furniture before because I have not.

I think you can always get damascus on an annual if you order it straight from the shop, BUT as it takes about a year to get, you would have needed to place that "custom" LE order last November'ish. They will always sell you a damascus blade after-the-fact for about $300 if you want to go that route.

If you are really interested (and have the $$ ready) you might call the shop and ask if they have any damascus blades on hand that would work, but I would suspect not. Another option would be to call around to the CRK dealers and see what they have on pre-order. Some of the larger shops like True North might have a Damascus LE on pre-order.

Thanks, I preordered a damascus in januari via a dealer, but I lost some confidence in him, i'll keep my fingers crossed, who knows..

Spotted Maple is sometimes used in high end drum kits...resonates quite well, and is also gorgeous when done right.

I believe it is Spalted Maple, and it is very unique looking. Fungus "stains" the wood. Camphor is also an interesting grain and tone.

That's what I thought at first, but they definitely said "spotted". Should be interesting either way. Spalted maple has been used by several knifemakers recently and can have very interesting figuring. I found these pictures of "spotted maple" on the web:

From an email I got about the ETA of the 2010 special editions, its definitely Spalted Maple (not spotted) and Camphor.

Here are two pics of those types of wood blocks that I found on the web:

Of course, these are only examples of the family of the wood that CRK will use. I'm sure that when they release the pictures of the wood choices, they will be absolutely stunning.

Ok, miscommunication then. I had no idea what "spotted" maple was anyway, but there are some fantastic examples of nicely done spalted maple-handled knives circulating around these days.

Both of these woods will look very cool as inlays I think.

Spalted Maple for me please! I need to call Heather tomorrow and let her know my choice!:cool::);)

I didn't get the impression that they were ready for our choices yet. I want to see their representation of the actual woods before I finalize mine. I'm sure both will be something special though.
