2010 Small Annual Maple --- WARNING a vent!!!

Sorry, guys but I've been stewing over this for a week...and it's still p!ssing me off.

So I go to the local brick-and-mortar knife shop and talk to the owner multiple times from September to December about a 2010 Small Maple. He says "no problem I have 2 coming in (1 with a swedge)". I write my name and number down on his CRK emails/invoices per his request.

So December comes and no call, but I see all my fellow CRK annual fans posting pics. But I re-assure myself that the call will come any day. I monitored their website every couple of days, and the knives were first posted as not available. So I figure that they are trying to advertise in advance of arrival.

I stopped in the shop between the holidays, but they closed for 2 weeks. Last weekend, I stopped in. The owner tells me that he got 2 smalls in but didn't know where my contact info was. So he sold them!!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!! :barf: :(

I think the last time I had this level of disappointment was when I was a kid and didn't get the "GI-Joe with the Kung-fu grip".

The owner is not malicious. He is a really nice guy. And he is in business to make money. [I will not "out the shop"]

But it's so late in the "annual season" that everyone is sold out. GGGGRRRRR!!!!

Ok, I feel a little better now. I'm going to cry a little more into my bourbon. For everyone that received their small maple, I'm happy for you. Really, I am!

Thanks for listening
John

Dude, that really sux. You did your part, but the dealer dropped the ball.

Here's hoping you can find one somewhere else.

Sorry to hear the trouble.

It's extra sad that your local shop is giving you the customer service worse than you'd expect from online dealers. I mean, there aren't too many people buying (with pre-order!) these beautiful, limited production of fine knives from mom & pap shops nowadays. Why would they treat their loyal customer like you this way? If I were you, sadly, that would be the last time I pre-order or give any serious business to that shop. :(

I just had to think about the Seinfeld's rental car episode.

Jerry: I have a reservation for this car and I'm coming to pick this up.

Rental Lady: I'm sorry, we're all out of cars.

Jerry: But I made this reservation a week ago. How can that be true? Do you know how to do your job?

Rental Lady: I know how to do my job.

Jerry: I don't think you do. Because if I did, I'd have a car. You see, you know how to TAKE reservations, but you don't know how to HOLD one. And that's really what counts. The HOLDING.

I hope you'll find one from somewhere else...

If you are looking for a small 2010 annual with camphor inlays and a swedge let me know because I recently saw one in stock with an online retailer.

ive seen a couple for sale on the exchange. i got one from plaza cutlery. it is truly beautiful and i'm sure you can find one if you continue to search. i would check all of the retailers listed on the chris reeve website.

Brick and Mortar stores wonder why they are hurting. Their prices are not competitive enough and customer service really is lousy anymore.

I see lots of the camphors still for sale, but no maples, which is what the OP was looking for.

OP, that dealer reeeeeally let you down.

Thanks Everyone! I received offers on small camphors and large maples...thank you! Actually a couple of local dealers have larges in stock (including lefties). Unfortunately, a small maple is what does it for me.

Thanks also for the Seinfeld re-play. I really make an effort to shop local mom-and-pops.

I am hopeful that one will turn up NIB or LNIB.

Thanks again to everyone that pm'd/emailed me. Early yesterday I emailed all domestic CRK dealers...yes ALL of them. I was really surprised how quickly I received replies back. Unfortunately all but 2 were "No".

www.leescutlery.com and Lynn Olson both have a small maple in stock for those interested. Before I received either of their replies, a well-known forum member offered up their safe queen. So the deal is done.

Great!!!!
Let's us know how you like it. I've been thinking of getting one. Either that or wait for 2011 version.

Well, not much of a question whether I like it or not. The only question is ... will I like more than my other LE's? :D

I've been on the sebenza disappointment train too. I was looking for a 2008 Limited Edition in Box Elder because that was the year that my son was born but I couldn't find one. I contacted Chris Reeve Knives by phone and asked if they had one and was told no. I asked if I could buy a 2009 LE and pay to have the inlays replaced with box elder but was told no to that. I then ordered a 2009 Limited Edition in Box Elder hoping to find someone on here that would trade for a 2008 but when I posted it for trade I was informed that they never made a 2008 LE in box elder...D'oh! Would of been nice if the person at Chris Reeve Knives that I spoke to informed me of this when I called. Anyway I turned around and ordered a 2008 Limited Edition in Satinwood but when it arrived the inlay was cracked. so far I've lost $120 in shipping plus whatever I lose when I put the 2009 up for sale next week. Hopefully my story made you feel better about your situation.:D
