Hey everybody,
So, as always, DrOpPoInT1110 and I (along with his roomate who is starting to get into knives) went to Jersey City for the East Coast Custom Knife Show. We saw a ton of amazing stuff as always, and met with a ton of really nice makers and fellow forums and youtube knife nuts. Rob and Rick @ Hinderer, Brady @ Monkey Edge, Todd Begg and his brothers, Brian Tighe, Jeremy Horton, and others.
One cool thing is that we met youtube reviewer "Victorinoxfan" who was also walking around the show. We spent most of the day walking the show with him after that and stopped for lunch after. He is a great dude and does awesome youtube reviews, so check out his channel.
Second thing that really made my day was meeting Brian Nadeau, a custom maker who does an amazing little knife called the "Talon". I first saw it last November at Rich Mattei's (a very nice dealer who is always at the show) booth. I handled it alot and was really amazed by how perfect the design was for me, and how cleanly refined the edges and the form of the knife was. I took a crappy cell phone pic of it and that was it.
Then recently I did some digging online and was able to find out what it was and who made it. Still broke, I was going to this past weekend's show hoping to see one again just to further convince myself that I need one someday. Then as we were leaving, we bumped into a group of guys where one of them was wearing a Talon on his neck. I pointed out to him that I love that knife and he pointed to the guy to his left and said, "well, here's the guy who made it!" That really did it for me. We talked for a long time, he showed us some newer designs he's been working on, including a cool folder. So check out Brian Nadeau.
Finally, our scores.
For me, I just recently spent all my money on a blem ZT 0300 from KershawGuy, so I knew I wasn't able to buy much at the show. But, between that and getting my Emerson CQC-7v back from DrOpPoInT1110 after months of having it since he fixed it for me, I was more than satisfied with 2 new knives to play with. I still managed to give Brady at Monkey Edge some business and grabbed a Strider beanie hat. He's a really cool dude, and I try to get something from him at each show, even if it can only be something small. I also grabbed a Hinderer stainless steel Investigator pen, just to change it up from the aluminum Extreme Duty Pen i've been carrying.
DrOpPoInT1110 scored an amazing Todd Begg friction folder, with silver twill scales and a unique blade coloration that was done on accident, making it even more one of a kind. He also grabbed a USN challenge coin from a dealer and a really nice stingray pouch for it.
Our new friend Victorinoxfan had picked up a CRK Mnandi which he was very happy about.
DrOpPoInT1110's roomate picked up a Hogue EX01 folder.
Well, that was our time at the show. Now, here's a pic of all four of our pockets dumped at the show, all the knives we bought plus what we carried there!
