I updated the design, late last year. I put a bit more grip retention in the handle and changed a few lines and went with a single oval hole in the blade. The damascus is by my Florida neighbor Todd Fischer.

Maybe the "Damascus Natural" style will make a comeback :D

I have a BM Skirmish in my pocket right now!
hands down my favourite folder pattern ever.
Most of the changes I like, others not so much- irregardless, it kicks some major ass.

Thanks Lorien, thanks guys. Remember, the Benchmade 630 is MUCH smaller. There would be no way to make the ergo changes like I did to one Benchmade size.

Very nice, Neil. Do you live out there in East Hillsborough and how did you managed to pry that damascus from Todd's hands? I have even seen Frank have to buy from other folks at times. :D

how big is this mother?

Any chance you would ever work with Benchmade again or any other production knife makers? I am trying to trade for a Skirmish as I type this. The Skirmish is my all time favorite folder and will never be able to own one of your customs. This one is beyond spectactular as is everything else you build by the way.

isaidme,

I hear that same comment ALL the time regarding the Benchmade collabs. People contact me to find out if I know who still has some in stock. I don't even have ANY of the collab knives myself as I've given the ones I had away :( I would LOVE to see Benchmade do new version based on my updated design. I had a good run with them and I think another collab would be a huge success. That would be entirely up to Benchmade though. My Henchman fixed blade is also a HUGE seller for me. My feeling is a factory version would do very well also. My situation is, I've been really busy over the past few years with the divorce and now some real estate projects with my girlfriend. Basically it's scrambling to put some sort of retirement together...............for when I'm 90!! I just haven't had time to do shows or make evaluation prototypes. I have about half my shop packed up, anticipating a move to a new location when my house sells. Once that is over and I'm up and running in a larger shop, I will be back on my game again 110%. Thanks to everyone for the kind words and compliments.

I appreciate the response and good luck to you in your endeavors! Worth a mention is that people are also clamoring for a new rukus so all your work is admired just fyi.

They were very solid knives and worked very well in a gloved hand. I'd like to see someone pick up on my Henchman Flipper as well. It's similar to the Ruckus design but much more sleek, frame or linerlock and a flipper. While the Axis lock works very well, it tends to require more space around the pivot, reducing the blade to frame ratio. I try to make my folders look like the blade won't fit into the frame!

keep coming back to this thread. There is a lot going on with this knife that I didn't clue into the first few times I looked at it. Brilliant!
I take back what I said, I like all the changes. This is a different animal.

I don't have a BM Skirmish, but I DO have a small Ruckus auto, and the large Ruckus. They're in my daily work rotation and they work HARD.

Crazily well made, and stylish.

I like these refinements to the shape. I'd love to see a version not so dressy: C/F with Ti bolster and clean hardware, no damascus. Old school 'tactical'.

Consider a mid tech run for the 'regular' guys out there. That would be me.... ;)

Props.

Lorien,

It has a slightly different style of construction than most of my knives. The red spacers are actually G10 and not the vulcanized stuff. They are all separate pieces that are not glued together. I wanted to be able to thin the horn material down after the surrounding onlay was to finished size and shape so I couldn't glue it all together. Putting it together is fun, it all stacks up. The red spacer between the horn and the onlay is only visible from the the top where it's exposed. The other fun thing is the back spacer. There are thru holes in the backspacer, tapped holes and large holes to hold it all down to my CNC fixture. Some of the frame screws go through to the opposite frame, others screw into the backspacer from both sides............including one of the pocket clip screws. The pocket clip looks like it's mounted up on standoffs but they are actually machined and part of the clip. Having 3 points like that makes mounting the clip to the contoured frame very easy and I think it provides a unique look. I have about 3 other backspacers on my bench with the tapped/clearance holes in the wrong place, LOL!!! Todd Fischer and I talked about making one of these together, using ques from both our styles. Should be fun.
