Nice. They look like rabid sturgeon. Bet they fight like them too

Love the video from the kayak. Must be fun, if not a little scary at times! I laughed at the tree hauling; gotta love that braid :D

Have you ever been bit by one?

no not yet luckily, they really scared me the first few times being around them, you cant really know what a fish is capable of until you catch a few. they cant bite their own tails luckily they can only come back on themselves about half way. i have become pretty comfortable around them as long as certain rules are observed. the best way to get one on land, is to lasso it behind the head and fins with about 12 feet of rope and hang on.

i just got my freshwater guide license, it looks like im going to be spending allot of time targeting these fish from my tandem kayak, my first real trip as a guide is this sunday, i am trying to provide a budget option for people who want to experience catching photographing and releasing a dinosaur.
im going to be in the tandem kayak with my client, backpaddling and keeping distance from the fish.
these fish are especially scary to try and land from a single kayak where you are at its mercy and right on top of it in a shallow river.
you could probably tell in the video i was freaked out pretty good when that one jumped next to the yak, massive adrenaline overload when they jump close to the yak, so much so i couldn't breath for a few seconds.

Oh good, I hope you maintain that perfect record ;) I've seen videos of a couple people who got bit by fairly small gar and they can really do some damage!

That's awesome, congratulations on the guide licence! Guiding with a kayak seems like a neat approach.

Good luck on Sunday and stay safe out there!
