I shot 13 birds 6 white wing. Most around 8 to9 AM. My chocolate lab is now very experienced with dove and was amazing in the field. The last 4 birds we got walking rather than stationary, she sprung the birds for me. There are few greater feelings than hunting with a dog that has natural instincts. I am still on cloud 9 thinking about the day.

She has 7 hunts now and is much more reserved once things get a little busy. She usually wants to get any hunters birds, but today she was much more focused in just what we were doing.

Jealous!! I've always loved the thought of hunting with a dog, but life has steered me in other directions. Minnesota started Dove hunting some years back, but I never have. I still have old grooves in my brain from when I was a kid when there weren't many, and killing one would be atrocious! I no better these days and Fall comes and goes without going out for a hunt.
Beautiful dog too!!

Lucky! Up here it wasn't that great as most of the fields around here are running tomatoes this year. Last year it was safflower for miles, birds were plentiful! Didn't see but maybe a dozen birds yesterday, only tagged one eurasian. I miss having a good working dog, it might be time for another one in the future...

Gonna hit it hard this weekend too! SoCal and the southern end of the valley are supposed to be the hot spots this year, good luck!

Congratulations on the birds. Dove breast poppers on the grill this weekend??? Georgia's season comes in Saturday, and I can't wait.

Great pic! Dove are the only birds around here that wingshooters can enjoy regularly unless hunting on a private preserve.

Oh yes. I cooked them fast and hot last night. Even my 14 yr old stepson apprehensively tasted the meat and said he was surprised at how good it was. I ate them all and gave the dogs some too. Dove season is like the Christmas of my youth. Purely magical especially when hunting with a dog that knows what to do.
