I'm not a huge fan of NY resolutions as I think each day/hour/minute/second is a new moment that we can change something we don't like. With that being said I churned A LOT of gear in 2014 after joining bladeforums . Bought my first Benchmade, Spyderco, and CRK that year as well as some others. Also bought several of those and even some of the same knife, lol! Turning gear and getting more was a lot of fun. I enjoyed those "out for delivery" notices a lot. But I'm tired of the churning and want to settle down for 2015 so here's my game plan:

When I'm not at work and in bluejeans I will carry my Chris Reeve Sebenza 21 (large) and a Case Peanut. I thought my knife to settle down with this year was going to be a Ritter Mini-Grip and I was finally going to buy premium scales for it and carry the knife since the plastic handles were just "ok." After getting the new handles installed it completely changed the feel of the knife and I didn't care for it. I re-evaluated what I wanted in a knife and landed on the Sebenza. Pricey but a worthy investment in my eyes. The Peanut is being carried because it is super light and small. I like to be discreet with my carry when need be and a large Sebenza may not always be appropriate or needed for fine task. Also, if someone needs a knife to cut something I'd rather hand them a $30 Peanut than the CRK. The Peanut will handle those situations like a champ.

I work in an office setting and I don't want to carry nearly 5 oz of titanium in my pocket and I personally don't like a clip in an office setting so I knew I wanted to go traditional here. I thought about just using the Peanut and still may carry it for the office some but I wanted a knife that was a little larger since it would be carried solo at the office. I have a Case Mini-Trapper that I will be using for office work. One utility blade and the other dedicated for food if I need to slice something.

I look forward to getting to know these knives really well in 2015 and not spending so much money on shipping! :D

But don't worry Bladeforums I still plan on purchasing a couple of nice fixed blades this year! :)

No pics right now because my phone bit the dust but I will have pics up when the new phone comes in.

Cool post Bluemetalchurch, congrats on your Sebenza! I'm curious what spyderco and benchmade models you've acquired, it sounds like you've gathered quite a few! :). Also, how do you compare your spydercos and benchmades to your CRK?

My 2015 Knife Resolution: Try out more brands! I've been a Spyderco addict for years and it's time to branch out.....a bit..

Thanks friend. This is my 6th Sebenza but my first large 21 clip point and I am really enjoying it.

Let me say this about Benchmade: I've never had a bad blade from them. Always sharp and centered. My experience with Spyderco wasn't bad I just always preferred Bench made for some reason.

Hi bluemetalchurch, not a lot of responses to this post yet. Wonder why?

You certainly have chosen some winners to help you accomplish your 2015 resolution. A CRK 21, Case Peanut and Mini-Trapper should be enough for anyone's needs.

Ever notice that sometimes people begin to search for that perfect place, person or thing, only to find they have spent more time, effort and money than is prudent or necessary for their satisfaction? In this world the perfect house, motorcycle, gun, knife, boat or whatever exist only in our imagination. It seems there is always a newer, stronger, faster, bigger or better something coming along that grabs our attention and sometimes even seems to require our allegiance. Some people enjoy and can handle the search while others find themselves caught up in something that drains their resources while leaving them unsatisfied. It's a wise person who knows what best suits him (or her) and has the strength of character to be true to self. Only then does one have the possibility to become truly satisfied.

Here's to getting to know knives really well by allowing them to actually be, an EDC.

Interesting post. I recently updated my (admittedly nerdy) list of knives that I own and was somewhat shocked to see that my collection had grown to 32 folders and 19 fixed blades. And that is not counting the ones that I've passed on to other folks or the 9 folders and 4 fixed blades I lost to a buddy's house fire.

Given that I consider myself a knife user more than a collector it seems that I have let things get a little out of hand.

That list includes my latest purchases which I have yet to pick up (including my first Chris Reeve knife - a small sebbie 21). Time to thin the herd? Need to ponder that some more...

Cheers,

Ben

Yea, I didn't figure the thread would be super popular and that's ok. I do plan on posting some pics tonight when I get my new phone in.

I could make do with the Peanut or Mini-Tripper but I do prefer carrying a large modern folder when I can for utility purposes plus I just love a CRK Sebenza.

And I agree with your statement; we are always looking for the greener grass. As a certified horse trader I love the search but I wanna do an experiment this year. :D

The last of 2014; the first of 2015. Both are excellent. I plan to SLowwwww down a lot.
