Just got my 2018 Christmas Sale from Cold Steel and I was stunned! This is the first Christmas sale, ever, where there are no good deals. None...well, available deals. There was a Recon 1 XL tanto for $89. Wow. So I got online intending to pick up a couple.

What?? That's a bummer. So I continued on. Found a couple of others that also were GOOD deals, but not FANTASTIC.

-= Out of Stock =-

In the past there were always a number of knives that were fantastically priced. When I get my Christmas flyer, I always hawk them to a place I can go over them without being interrupted, a black Sharpie in my hand, and I go over them. This is the first time my Christmas catalog ended up in the trash the day after I got it.

Anyone else disappointed?

XL Recon tanto was in stock when I checked.
Colossus for $100 seems good to me.
Broken Skull (grey or pink) for $50 seems good to me.

I was really pleased to get the Rondel dagger for $50 instead of the $120 it normally goes for.

I placed an order on line for a "few" Drop Forged Hunters early Monday morning (Nov 19). As I viewed their wares later that same day I noticed that some of the prices had changed. So I called to add some additional product to the order placed earlier. I was told that those orders had already gone out and that I would have to place a new order. So I told them that I wanted some Ten Shin Walking Stick @ $20 each. I was told that was not the correct price and should be $24.95 each. I mentioned that I was looking at the product on line as we spoke and that it was clearly marked $20.

The customer service rep then went on to tell me that he couldn't legally tell me not to order the walking sticks at the $20 price but that it was a mistake and would be corrected as soon as we were done talking. It's as though my very soul would burst into flames if I tried to take advantage of the situation! So I told him how many I wanted and he said that he could not process the order by phone. That I would have to go on line. But hurry because they would be correcting the price to $24.95 within a few minutes. So I placed the order on line and a few minutes later they were listed as Out Of Stock. I guess to prevent anybody else from ordering them at the $20 price. Oddly enough the price never did change on line and several days later when the Christmas Sale flyer arrived in the mail, I saw that the Ten Shin Walking Sticks were listed at $24.95 for 1 or 2 for $40. So I don't see what all the fuss was about since I was ordering more than 2 to begin with!

I also tried to inquire about the color or finish of the Drop Forged Survivalist and Bowie being sold. There is a Drop Forged Boot Knife thread on this very forum that arrived in a dark grey color and not the usual bright silver. I was curious if these other Drop Forged knives were the new grey or old silver finish. The sales rep had no clue as to what I was talking about so I passed on ordering these knives as I was only interested in the grey color if available. I suspect they were silver and were marked down to make room for the new grey colored blades. But it never hurts to ask.

So in conclusion, I ordered some Ten Shin Walking Sticks and Drop Forged Hunter Knives at very good prices. But it was one of the strangest experiences I have ever had placing an order with Cold Steel.

$50 broken skulls are a great deal, and the grey is nice. I wonder when they'll run out, seems to be one of the only cts xhp blades they still have stock of.

Check the website every so often. I noticed the items I ordered were listed as "Out Of Stock" soon after I placed my orders. Then magically became available the next day. Maybe they are trying to regulate or pace their inventory to last the duration of the holidays. I would hate to think that the "few" items I ordered were all they had on hand.

I can usually find better prices at the big knife stores, fun to look through though.

That's true for a lot of it, but not others. The Rondel I ordered is around $120 at most of the big knife stores I've checked, lowest I've found it anywhere is $90. Christmas Sale price is $50. I've also not found a Broken Skull at $50 at any places I've looked(cheapest I've found is $65)...if I didn't already have one in blue, I'd pick up the grey one for sure.

Yes, on the gray and pink Broken Skulls. I've got one in blue and don't have a use for any more. Also, check the drop forged knives. I wanted some of those, too, but look on the Christmas sale website at Cold Steel.

The only good deal is the gray Broken Skulls.

Post Edit: Just checked again and they've put more drop forged knives up, so get 'em if you need any. Sure wish they had the Recon 1s in XL tanto.

Yea, that's true, I just seem to like the wrong ones for best pricing.

many are more expensive than dealers. not any really great deals unless one doesnt have the few items that are cheaper than dealers......

passed.

It wouldn't be smart for CS to undercut (no pun intended) their dealers. It seems that the ones that are deeply discounted are on the chopping block (pun intended). :)

yeah I agree but............they did do that with some items. the dealers I looked at have some of those chopping block items in stock and already paid for so that isnt helpful for them.

all that aside, it's a disappointing xmas sale to me........they've done better ones in the past. is what it is.....

The Christmas Sale this year is terrible. Not undercutting dealers is one thing; not undercutting Amazon is something else. I really wanted a couple of those Recon 1 Tantos, but they not only aren't out of stock, they're not even on the page anymore. If the stock market is really down, the ought to be giving us a means of buying some Christmas gifts. Now Tiny Tim will have to go to bed without his Recon 1 Tanto, and that makes me want to cry ('cause the ain't getting mine!). Guess I'll have to get flashlights.

The Ten Shin Walking Stick isn't on the Christmas Sale page either. I checked the Cold Steel regular non Christmas web site and it's not there as well. Looks like they are discontinued from production.

Did you receive this? Curious if it has the brown handle as pictured or if it's black as I've seen in other photos.

For anyone interested, the Hold Out 1 is currently available for $89.99.
