Well, whachya got going on this year? Maybe it's just a knife in use. Maybe you're gifting a knife or sharpening gear or what have you. Maybe you'll end up getting a knife.

How's about some pics and talk about knives and such impacting our holidays through the end of the year?

Today, my Wusthof 6" Chef's knife got the call. I got this as a gift many years ago and these days it is mostly reserved for breaking down poultry and as something of a utility knife. I tuned it up a couple days ago and used it today to break down the Thanksgiving turkey.

It's currently dry brining in the fridge and I used it to chopped through the rib cage and such to bust the carcass up into manageable pieces for roasted stock that will be tomorrow's gravy.

I'm also seriously considering getting my son in law a Work Sharp for Christmas. Want him to learn free hand but his ADD gets in the way. :D

Bought my grandmother a purple Victorinox classic for Christmas.

Bought my dad a factory sealed unissued 1985 Gen Cut m7 bayonet with M10 scabbard which I went ahead and gave him early today.
I'll also be buying him a Swiss cheese Victorinox classic.

And I'm giving my brother a vintage USA Schrade Tough chip scissors based multitool.

We're going to the mother in law's tomorrow and having sharpened her knives in the past, I know what I'll be finding. I have a little case that I'll be packing a Baryonyx Manticore, Norton India Fine, and a strop and will give her knives a work up.

Almost forgot, I also ordered a Taco Victorinox classic for my mom.
I was going to go for the mermaid version, but they've got the BHQ logo on the back and wasn't sure how she'd feel about that.

As the holidays approach, I'm ramping up my anguish over my lost/misplaced kc custom. It's Ken's X-Mas Tree Shadow, with Christmas Tree celluloid scales, purchased directly from the maker many years ago. I never used it, but did enjoy carrying and lightly handling it, especially this time of the year. Time to finish my coffee this morning and mount another search...102_1014_edited-1-1.jpg

That's a beauty and would hurt or sure. Best of luck in your search!!!

Not this year, but Thanksgiving day two years ago.

We all met at my brother’s house, kind of a family tradition. The bird was beautiful, but there wasn’t a sharp knife in the house. Well, except for the Schempp Bowie in my picket.

Well, I gotta say, mom in law, has been using her Wusthof block-set steel like I showed her and her knives weren't in too bad shape. I still gave the whole set a tune up but I was impressed at both her using the tool and how well it was doing at maintaining a passable edge.

I sharpened 9 kitchen knives, plus my two working folders while I had the stones out, and only after I cleaned everything up did I realize I forgot about touching up my new fillet knife, and the kershaw in my pocket at the time was also in need of a tune-up... fml
