I asked Buck if I could buy a Boy Scout 500 without any engraving or logo on it, but they never got back to me. I guess the answer is no. šŸ˜€

I don't understand why they fail to respond to a legit question from someone who wants to be a customer.

They’ve discontinued the standard run 500 and only offer the Boy Scout model currently. Demanding an answer for a special request knowing it will be a ā€œcustomā€ that will take extra time and scheduling to make while also cutting into the regular production of the Boy Scout model is a bit of a stretch. I’m sure Buck gets a bunch of ā€œspecialā€ requests and I’m sure some go unanswered, I won’t fault them for putting their heads down and working on what they’re scheduled to make.

I was not demanding or angry about it. I just asked Buck. Perhaps they have to add the logos later and it would be easier to get one without it - I don't know. Like I said, I assumed that "no answer" meant "no." Don't make a mountain out of a molehill. I'm not faulting Buck at all.

My response wasn’t to you. It was to the person who said they simply can’t understand why Buck wouldn’t respond to such requests with a sad and confused face.

Since this was apparently aimed at me based on a later response by you, I will respond.

I have no problem with Buck making their own production decisions. I would be surprised however if the people any manufacturer of size would designate to respond to customer inquiries would be the same people making the product itself.

All of that said, before I retired I paid people really good money to keep track of customer communications and to respond to each and every one of them. As far as I knew, so too did most other successful business owners (as opposed to managers). Large, publicly held companies are usually the arrogantly indifferent ones. Some of those customer communications inspired us to consider new lines and approaches to what we were doing and added to our bottom line.

That was the reason for my comment.

I apologize about the delayed response to your email. We have been short handed in our Customer Service department. Unfortunately the 500 Duke has been discontinued. We are currently producing them only to fulfill Eagle Scout orders.
I just tried to order an Eagle version and was told the are discontinued, this was a month ago.
I would love to see the B.S.A. Eagle in a 110 version..

I'm sorry I wasn't very clear on my response. We stopped taking order for the 500 Eagle Scout knife and only built the remaining quantity to fulfill those orders. We are currently working with BSA on updating the knives offered including the 500 Duke.

I don’t want to read too much into this, but it sounds like Buck is currently working with the BSA to update the BSA knives which will include the 500 Duke again at some point. Am I reading this correctly?

I think that Buck wants to stop any production of the Duke. :(

I'm curious about why as I prefer the Duke to the 112 or the 110 for EDC. In full disclosure I own all three as automatics.
