2022 Bladeforums knife is available

Here is what it looks like this year, according to the thread:

It was noted that the etch will be different I believe. But this is the shape and blades. A nice knife in my opinion.

At first I thought you meant the BCCI knife so I jumped over there ASAP and got all confused when I couldn't find anything! Nice knife, but I won't be ordering.

If it's a GEC knife I wouldn't want it anyways.
Their marketing only encourages flipping.

Don’t blame GEC, the flippers encourage flipping, as this really didn’t start occurring till just a few years ago. Did you own one previously?

Gotta disagree, buyers encourage the flipping by their willingness to pay the ridiculous markup that flippers charge.

There’s that also. The whole coin of these two sides is current interest and demand outnumbering the number of product. I’ve been to the GEC factory and it’s not very large inside at all, they simply can’t make 2-3x the amount of knives like everyone wants without expanding and going all out new machines.

That’s exactly what the owners don’t want to do, one of the main build points of their knives is that they’re still making them on 100+ year old equipment that was bought from iconic US manufactures who sold out and closed up shop after their QC took a dump. (Bill Howard personally watched his old co-owner drive Queen into the ground next door).

I don’t chase them anymore but I’ll still buy them here and there, just got a nice, super hard to get scout knife on a trade. I was mostly pointing out that GEC doesn’t market their knives to be flipped, but it is the consumers driving this situation as we both point out. I think if you like slipjoints and traditional knives, get a few to try out, I see some great deals on the later pages of the exchange, 3&4 is where I like to look.

some of the GEC gang, probably the vocal minority, was so salty when Buck got the go ahead in 2018. Can't believe I didn't buy that one

The demand was so low that they were easy to get, everyone that wanted could order two off the get go. I had a forum friend who wasn’t interested but I asked him to buy his two and I then bought them, with notice/permission from the people involved of course. I kept one, gave one to each my dad, brother and now father in law for Christmas that year.

They are pretty excellent knives, my brother is a grain and hay/straw farmer that uses his every day since then. I’ll have to ask him for some pics, last I saw it was pretty well loved and by far the most used out of any pictures I’ve seen posted.

now you're just rubbing it in 😂

I think some of the hysteria in recent years was due to more people being at the computer and some stimulus money. I think a lot of people were new to the hobby, or even simply trying to find a hobby at the time. They didn't know as much about the design, companies selling or making, or even knife steel. The rush provided by drops worked for a lot, though. I think some of that adrenaline is wearing off though (as well as some of the money) and you can see it in some of the lingering stock from some of the more recent drops in the last few months...
I also think it was a very short term "hobby" if you will, for quite a few people.
