Every month we have BOTM guesses, and there's a recent thread about your all-time favorite Buck. But what about the favorite Buck that you got this year? A Buck of the Year? (note, that's BOTY, not BOOTY!)

Do you have a new Buck that you find yourself reaching for more than others? Any surprise charmers?

I've been thinking about this all year, and when Buck dropped a couple new versions of the 104, I knew what it would be.
The 104 is a kitchen workhorse in our home. It we ever did a "Buck of the Year" thread similar to what they have in the Traditionals forum, I'd probably be really tempted to cheat. The 104 isn't a new knife this year, but it gets used more than any of my other knives.
This 104 in 3V arrived just before summer camp with our Boy Scout troop, and it's a great all-around camp knife. Fire prep, snack prep, woodcarving, what else is there to do at camp? With a knife, I mean. I didn't take it swimming.

I tend to use it quite a bit in the kitchen. Just look how it handles butter! Man, that thing goes through butter like a knife through... well, you know what I mean. It's got great balance, the micarta feels fantastic in hand, and it's the perfect size for a lot of kitchen tasks.

Usually, my knife budget goes to folders, and I don't really obsess about fixed blades. There are other fixies that I use regularly, but a 300 series is usually in my pocket. The 104, however... almost every day since I got it.

This is the smoothest, sexiest, most perfectly designed medium duty knife ever made, ever.

501 Larrin in cocobolo and brushed brass

No competition. This is BOTY! This is the apex of Buck knife manufacturing. It's simple and perfectly executed with excellent materials.

Cheating or not, the 3V 104 is a masterpiece.

I was having trouble coming up with an answer so I looked at my spreadsheet to see what I've acquired this year. No wonder I couldn't decide. I haven't bought a Buck knife all year long! Haven't bought very many knives at all.

My favorite by default is the Custom Shop 112 that my wife got me for Christmas but I haven't seen it yet.

I acquired more Bucks this year than any other I believe, but 2024 Buck of the year has gotta be this one because it's my 1st custom shop knife.

My alternate choice was my redbone 305, but could not get my photo to upload directly or to my usual image host.
