Enough is enough, the Slim Dog Jack 2024 deserves a thread ! I've seen some really great pictures in the Lets talk GEC! thread, but these knives are too nice to not have their own little piece of this forum.

Lucked out on this run, I was able to get the two that I wanted on drops and then the Blackwood SFO drop happened. Luck strikes again. A holy trinity trifecta !

My favorite by far is the Blackwood, with 2nd place going to (which changes daily) the antique yellow jigged bone / tomato acrylic.

GEC really put a nice package together on these knives with the Slim Dog Jack name and the artwork on the tubes & buttons, the houndtooth shield. Also the artwork for the Northfield with the cattle bone diagram on the tube and the great etch on the blade. Has GEC ever used this etch before ? I like it, I like it a lot.

And of course we must discuss perfection, . . . the excellent, best of the best, Blackwood. Mine is the nicest in the universe (I've checked around, it is. Before you ask, I control a wormhole). The wood on mine is dark until you look close, there are veins of lighter colored wood which are amazing. I just love the way the wharncliffe adds to the overall appearance. Reminds me of a tear drop handle. And the swedges, O ! the swedges. Fantastic ! The 48 is absolutely unequivocally my new favorite GEC.

I swore to myself that I would resist getting one of this recent run of 48. Then they all looked so fantastic that my resolve was weakened. Then the CK SFO came out and I was really regretting my earlier decision. When I saw one on the secondary for a fair price, I broke down and grabbed it. Boy am I glad I’m weak when it comes to cool knives.

And holy cow does it ever look great in the sunlight!

I agree! These are my favorite two of the run.

I scored the same trifecta! The 48 really surprised me this year. The CK improved trapper is perfect.

Y’all, how is the pull on the 24 CK 48 as compared to the 14 and 17’s? I found the 14’s to be nice but the 17’s to be too light. What you guys think?

I don’t have experience with any of the previous years, but mind from ‘24 is rather light. Personally, I’d call it a 4.5 or 5 pull. It’s smooth though and still snaps nicely.

Same here. On mine the wharncliffe is slightly lighter than the muskrat blade.

I have one of the CK 48s from 2013. Super nice knife. The African blackwood looks amazing in the sunlight. It has streaks of different hues. I like it a lot more than Gabon ebony, which is still nice, but it's usually just plain black with less character.

I was able to grab one of the new run from a considerate member of the porch in blackwood and WT guise to go along with my user Tiger Eye acrylic from 2017.
The blackwood is strictly a safe queen, too elegant to use.

Yes ! Love the patina on those blades. The Tiger Eye is definitely on my list of knives to beg, borrow or steal for : )
