I recently acquired a Mini Griptilian in 20CV through a trade. The trader said there was some paint spots on the blade and I had no issues with that. In his photos, it really did look like gray paint. After cleaning with toluene and MEK the paint would t come off. I had to use a brass brush and some scotch bright to expose the base metal. I posted photos of what looks like corrosion or some sort of chemical reaction that has eaten away some of the metal. Has anyone had any experience like this with 20CV?

I’ve only used a little soap and water to clean the blade.
But no I haven’t seen this on cv20,m390 etc yet I don’t look that hard at it either.

I'm no expert, but it looks to me like something got splashed on it that etched the steel slightly in those small spots. I had something similar (but more noticeable) happen to the S45VN blade on my Sebenza, though I have no idea what chemical exactly caused it or when it happened. I agree with the sentiment above that it's nothing to worry about, as long as you are happy with the trade.

I agree with what Knives&Lint Knives&Lint said. And the same thing happend to me almost exactly except it was my S45VN Inkosi. Used it to cut the little foil seal off a jug of aluminum brightener, which is acidic to some degree, it stained the blade immediately and its not just a stain that you can wash off, it's an etch. Makes no practical difference at all, just a stain.

The pic is of the stain on my Inkosi, but I have had the exact same thing happen on a 20CV WE Esprit, just didn't have a pic of it handy..

How about metal polish like Flitz? I agree the spots won't hurt the usefulness of the knife but I like to keep my knives bright and clean also. I usually keep a wax coating on my blades and the first time I wax them I get stuff off the blade that I never could see .
