I have been buying HI khukuries Uncle Bill now for years but my buying has been on a drought for the last 12 months or more. Every now and again I dust my collection off and have a little play. My favourite style has varied from one week to the next. My present favourite is a 22 ounce 20 inch Sirupati, closely followed by a 19 ounce 18 inch Gelbu Special and a 17 inch village Ang Khola.

Recently I bought 5 acres covered with virgin bush and relatively thick 16 year old regrowth which backs onto virgin bush. The regrowth covers about 3 acres of the 5 acres and consists mainly of 1 inch to 3 inch small eucalypt trees. I plan on clearing part of the regrowth for a home, yard, and a permaculture plot when I take early retirement at the end of next year. But this was all the excuse I needed to go on another buying spree.

Two 21 inch Gelbu Specials recently appeared in the for sale area of Bladeforums. I always wanted the longer version of the Gelbu Special. These are two totally different GB's. One is a proven chopper and weighs 32 ounces, the other is new and only weighs 24 ounces. The 32 ounce GB has been sent to Survival Sheath Systems to have a back kydex sheath made for it (I have two previous khukuries in shoulder sheaths from Robert and he does a great job). The other comes with a Vess piggyback leather sheath. I have justified the purchase to my wife by indicating that these will be great for clearing the regrowth. I've even indicated that I may need another when Uncle Bill gets back on his feet and runs another sale.

The drought is broken and I'm excited.`

I haven't seen any yet but there is prolific wildlife on the property - kangaroos, wild turkey - so I know they are there.

Good for you Glen. Glad you have a good piece of property and retirement place. Happy chopping.

Oh gosh yes...tell her the experts have said that the sort of work you'll have to do in proving for her may require another baker's dozen or so...

I think PIGS are good for removing snakes. As I recall from my taking pictures of horse show days, they would let pigs loose on pasture in the Spring to clean out rattlesnakes before letting the Quarter Horses out.

I could be completely wrong though.

Three acres is a lot a acres to clean with a blade and your back. Be careful.

Yes, tell us how the GS's do for you. I have two 19" Gelbu's and they seem a bit long to me. Still like them...but not sure just how to utilize them. Give us a report. Thanks,

Jeff

Busting brush with an HI to make room for a home? Sounds like an awesome time, Glenn. Good luck with that.

I've found the 20" Siru to be an excellent all-purpose khuk; it can do machete work very well but will process trees when necessary. Then again, I've never handled a GS. Let us know how this works out for you.

A 21"+ Chitlangi would be very helpful methinks. The one I have is nice and light, or at least feels that way, and cuts like a much heavier khukuri!!!! :D  :D
I would definitely have one on my list of absolutely Have to Haves!!!! :p ;) :D
