Here's a new Yanagi Ba for sale! Yanagi Ba roughly translates to "Willow Leaf Blade" as the profile is close to the willow leaf. This knife is super sharp and geared for draw slicing and fine work. The two tone hand rubbed and highly polished finish works great in the kitchen as it slices cleanly and liquids bead right off... easy to keep clean and looking good!
Materials Used
3/32" (.093") 52100 Steel
2x2 Twill Carbon Fiber - Made in USA by Ghost CF
Stainless Steel and Micarta Pins
G-Flex Epoxy
Details
52100 Steel - went through my extensive 52100 heat treat for edge holding, fine grain and toughness. Hardness is estimated at roughly 61-62 RC.
Peened and polished center pin - looks nice and tricky to do
Contoured scales for comfort - Coke bottle inspired ergonomic shape feels great in the hand and indexes well for versatility
Single bevel grind to a near zero (no microbevel) edge - hand sharpened with waterstones and very fine grit sandpaper then stropped on plain tooling leather and phonebook paper for a scary sharp edge. Strop to maintain! The bevel is a near mirror polish with but not a perfect mirror as I did not buff the edge... this finish is easy to maintain and slices very cleanly. This knife looks good but really wants to be used!
Hand rubbed flats contrast with polished single bevel
210 mm or 8.25" Blade
13" long with 4.75" handle
US Shipping is Included. I ship via USPS Insured Priority mail with tracking.
