212 "Tang Stamp"

I can't speak to all variations of the 212 but it is my understanding that Buck no longer 'stamps' any premium steel...etch only.
I believe this has come up before but 'microfracturing' around the stamp may be the culprit. 420HC steel knives seem to be stamped.
Alaskan Guides with S30V used to be stamped but I believe are now etched.

I believe as of right now the 212 is only an exclusive, not a standard offering. That's why no date code and only the anvil is shown on the tang.

I wonder if for small runs the etching is less costly. I bet having tang stamp dies made ain't cheap.
Definitely and I believe Buck may have even officially said so.
Lazer etching is definitely low cost.

I know at the Crosman custom shop they will lazer etch whatever you want on your airgun for free, because the only cost is the paycheck of the employee who puts it in the machine and pushes the start button.

well the machine ain't cheap and the maintenance to maintain it and training of employees to operate it. remember fixed costs are costs. your talking only direct costs and there is much more costs than the direct costs.

Yeah definitely, and I'm sure as always it's factored into the price.
Any manufacturing step will cost money to perform.

You an airgunner? I've collected vintage CO2 and pneumatic airguns since the 80's. In Crosman alone I easily have several hundred going back to 1923. Don't mess with the new stuff. Grew up in Crosmans backyard in Upstate NY. Oops... Back to Buck knives.

Yep, but I've only got 30 right now because I limit myself to what I can realistically find time to shoot.
Mostly American multi stroke pneumatics and a few co2's.
My #1 favorite is my '79 Sheridan blue streak, my most prized possession.
I've got some 60's -80's Crosmans and Benji's, as well as some recently made classic Crosman models.

Back on topic.

The lazer etched markings I get, but why didn't they at the very least do a model number ?
And no date code ?
